Show Business and Economics Office Administration Program: Secretarial ScienceAssociate of Science Degree (two year program). I. General Requirements: A. Specific course requirements of the college (see index). The state requirement in American History, Government, and Economics does not need to be completed. B. General Education requirements (see index). Exceptionnine hours in the Social Science area. C. Secretarial Science students must have an overall G. P. A. of 2.00 or C. D. Secretarial Science students must have a 2.25 G. P. A. or better in major courses. To enroll in any skill course, a student must have a grade of C or better in the preceding course in the same skill. E. 93 total hours are required. F. Students who have taken Shorthand or Typewriting in high school will be placed in the appropriate leyel courses by means of an evaluation of their proficiency. Any skills courses that are bypassed may be replaced by elective courses in business. G. Students transferring credits from another institution must take at least one Typewriting and one Shorthand course at Weber State College to verify their skills. II. Specific Requirements: A. Minimum of 33 credit hours in Office Administration courses. B. Office Administration courses required: Office Administration 103 (3), 201 (4), 202 (4), 353 (4), 354 (2). C. Courses to elect from (sixteen credit hours): Office Administration 123 (4), 150 (4), 301 (3), 325 (4), 341 (4), 342 (4), 355 (3); Accounting 102 (4), 202 (4); Business Administration 101 (4), 320 (4); Data Processing 101 (4); Economics 101 (5), 102 (3); Finance 101 (4). Support course required: Accounting 102 (4). *341 required or 12 credit hours of shorthand. OFFICE ADMINISTRATION COURSES 101. Elementary Typewriting (3) Learning the keyboard, machine parts, letters, manuscripts, and tables for personal use. A W S 102. Intermediate Typewriting (3) Review of keyboard. Letters, manuscripts, and tables for business use. Prerequisite: OA 101 or 25 wpm. A W S 103. Advanced Typewriting (3) Tables, letters, manuscripts, and medical, legal, or financial problems. Prerequisite: OA 102 or 40 wpm. A W S 111. Machine Shorthand (4) Introduction to Touch Shorthand keyboard, theory, and speed development to 60 wpm. Prerequisite: Typing 25 wpm. AWS 112. Intermediate Machine Shorthand (4) Completion of theory with practice dictation. Prerequisite: OA 111, typing 40 wpm. AWS 121. Elementary Shorthand (4) Introduction to Shorthand theory with emphasis upon reading and writing fluency. Prerequisite: Typing 20 wpm. AWS 107 |
