Show Technology Machine Tool Program: Manufacturing TechnologyAssociate of Applied Science Degree I. General Requirements: A. A minimum of 102 credit hours. B. MACHINE TOOL COURSES 050. Machine Tool (1-5) A non-credit class for students that want to machine hobby or home projects. Persons may register for one to five credit hours, with each hour of credit allowing them 3 hours of lab time per week. The student must buy any material used on the project. (Credit is for fee assessment, only.) Prerequisite: Previous machine shop training or work experience. AWS 100. Machining Principles (1-5) Tool grinding, metal cutting, measurements, lathe operations. Five lectures. AWS 101. Machine Process (1-5) Fundamental lathe and drill press operations and bench work. Five 3-hour labs a week. AWS 102. Machining Principles (1-5) Precision drilling, boring, and shaping of metals with respect to various machines and their cutting tools. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 100. Five lectures. AWS 103. Machine Processes (1-5) Fundamental milling machine, advanced lathe and drilling operations. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 101. Five 3-hour labs a week. AWS 104. Machining Principles (1-5) Fundamentals in heat treatment of metals: grinding principles involved in surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, internal grinding, tool and cutter grinding. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 102. Five lectures. AWS 105. Machine Processes (1-5) Heat treatment of metal parts and tools: surface grinding cylindrical grinding, internal grinding, tool and cutter grinding. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 103. Five 3-hour labs a week. AWS 127. Machine Shop (3) Basic fundamentals in the operation of lathes, drilling machines, milling machines, including bench work and layout. One lecture and two 3-hour labs a week. AWS 200. Tool Principles (1-5) Fundamental principles of tool making; types of tooling, dies, molds: tool grinding. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 104. Five lectures. AWS 201. Tool Building (1-5) Tool making and precision machining processes. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 105. Five labs a week. AWS 202. Tooling Principles (1-5) Types of drill jigs, milling, grinding and turning fixtures; standard parts, fitting of drill bushings. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 200. Five lectures. AWS 203. Tool Building (1-5) Jigs and fixtures fabrication. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 201.Five 3-hour labs a week. A WS 204. Tooling Principles (1-5) Production principles in setting up machines, operational sequence, attachments, tooling and gauging methods. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 202. Five lectures. AWS 205. Tool Building (1-5) Production problems involving set-ups, operational sequence, attachments, special tools, jigs and fixtures. Prerequisite: Machine Tool 203. Five 3-hour labs a week. W S 292. Short Courses, Workshops, Institutes and Special Programs (1-6) In order to provide flexibility and to meet many different needs, a number of specific offerings are possible using this catalog number. When the number is used it will be accompanied by a brief and specific descriptive title. The specific title with the credit authorized for the particular offering will appear on the student transcript. A W S Su MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM This curriculum is designed to prepare students for employment as technicians. The skills learned can be utilized to perform such functions as engineering drafting, detail designing, time study, tool designing, experimental machining and welding, inspection and quality assurance, engineering laboratory assisting, and numerical control programming. Students completing this two-year program will be given an Associate of Applied Science degree. Certificate of Skills Proficiency will be issued for attainment of agreed-upon skill levels. PRE-VOCATIONAL SHEET METAL The pre-vocational sheet metal curriculum is designed to offer students some skills needed to enter the field of commercial and aircraft sheet metal repair or preparation for entry into the Manufacturing Technology Program. 277 |
