The Better Part By Helen Welshimer THE sunlight laid bright rugs across the floor As Mary chatted with her Kingly Guest, But Martha, busy with her pots and pans, And cumbered with much serving, worried lest He would not know that it was she who laid Fresh nappery and good vessels for the meal. And so she asked that He bid Mary serve With her. It is not strange that she should feel MUCH over burdened with her household tasks. But He Who was her gracious guest replied: You took these cares unbidden to yourself, While Mary chose to listen at my side. Dear Father, when I fret because there is So much of peace and beauty that I lose In petty toil, remind me that I, too, May have the better part, if I but choose! |
