Show Aside from teaching from day to day, modern pedagogues formulate and interpret educational theory and policy. Beset with coeducation, subsidized athletics, adult education, howtogetgumofflibrarychairs, and other problems, they have somehow managed. . . But again and again has arisen the dominant question of choosing between the theoretical and the practical-how to join such diverse elements of teaching into a harmonious who]e. . . The choices made by many other schools have produced both human robots and parasitic aesthetes, seldom the balanced individual. Rarely have they resulted in equipoise. . . Weber's solution-Weber's triumph-lies in the dove- tailed merging of the two. Vocational classes include cultural matters to encourage the liberal life; academic courses are tinged with practicability to discourage pedantic vegetarianism. . . Weber likes to demonstrate the success of its theories in the lives of its graduates. These lives attest to the superiority of its methods by being examples of material gain and cultural attainment. . . Wonder if they II let me play my harmonica in the bank. |
