Most any night, when the rest of the school is as black as Dix Jones ink, the vocational building windows are aglow with a light that is almost animate. Here the men of the defense school are working in the blue glare of the acetylene torch, the showering sparks of the grindstone, and the aureate glow of molten metal . . . Some of the men claim they re bored stiff with looking into the proverbial cannon's mouth. Generally though, they seem to get a thrill out of preparing themselves to work for Uncle Sam on a project that has more than three initials.
