Show courtiers The team this year was composed mostly of experienced players. Those returning from last year's squad included Co-captains Rawson Child and Bob Sneddon, Alan Christiansen, and Les Gardiner. "Bones" Childs, a rugged and formidable player, also played football. His height, speed, and quick thinking meant a lot to his team mates this year. He was named on the all-conference first team. Sneddon's shooting ability amazed his own team members as well as those of the opposing groups. He seemed to be able to hit the hoop from almost any spot with that "south" push shot he so expertly executes. . . . Another spark plug in the lineup this year was Ken DeVries, a blond speedster and a good passer. Ken was the life of the gang when he was on the floor. He was second all-conference guard. Rawson Childs, Co- Captain, center Ken DeVries, guard Les Gardiner, guard Bob Sneddon, Co- Captain, forward Jay Hancey, forward Clarke Johnson, guard Eugene Green, guard Bob Reese, forward Bob Bell, guard Les Gardiner, third all-conference guard, and Jay Hancey were two "live wires" on the court. Les seemed to be everywhere at once as soon as the opening whistle blew. His omnipresence continued throughout the game, too. Hancey, a modest freshman from Ogden High, stepped from prep center to a regular forward on the Weber squad. He practiced in the gym all the time the others played football, perfecting his shots and floor work which gave him state-wide prominence last year. |
