During Iron Horse week the G.A. sponsored the tug-of-war and door decorating contest. The doors were all so good we ended up giving away five cakes instead of one. Jerry Gordon, Dirk VanBatenburg, Delbert Matchett, and Richard Watkins are Company Executive Officers for their respective companies. A pie baking contest was held during “I Am an American” week. The juniors and seniors who have been selected to act as Platoon Leaders or Company Armorers are: Michael Moon, Billy Mcllrath, Steve LaFleur, Larry Shepherd, David Brandley, Michael Miller, Gilbert Johnson, Tim Clendenin, Gary Baggs, Thomas Martinez, and Carl Merino. Thorsted and Sergeants Ficarra and Dempsey as instructors, to a successful year. the program looks forward Forensics Squad Takes Second Place The Ben Lomond Forensics Squad, under the direction of Mr. Monson, was able to win a second place at the Third Annual Portia Douglas Individual Events Meet. The meet is held each year at Ogden High School to honor Mrs. Douglas who taught forensics for several years at Ogden High School. There were five areas in which students could participate: Legislative Forum (mock legislature), Oratory, Dramatic Interpretation, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Impromptu Speaking. Grant Price and Ken Alford captured firsts in the area of Legislative Forum — Grant in the Senate, and Ken in the House of Representatives. Linda Evans placed second in the Senate. Lynn Dyment and Kathy Barnett were able to go into the final round of Oratory, and Tom Junk was able to go into the final round of Impromptu Speaking. Besides B.L. and Ogden (which took first place), the other schools participating in the meet were Weber, Roy, and Bonneville. for Christmas th: eesJi BLH, OHS Hands Musical Join in a Sense The bands, orchestras, and a cappella choirs of Ben Lomond and Ogden High schools presented a concert Friday evening, Nov. 12, in the Ogden High School auditorium. After performing in the assembly Thursday morning, the band, orchestra, and a cappella from Ben Lomond traveled to Ogden for what was to be a two-day clinic with Ogden High School. The band. orchestra, and choir each were directed‘by guest directors. Conducting the band was Dr. Forrest Stoll, conducting the orchestra was A. Harold Goodwin, and directing the choir was Joseph Graves, formerly Bonneville High School’s choir director. The culmination of this combined effort was the fine performance each group gave at the concert. The concert lasted for about an hour and a half, but every minute was well spent if you attended. se, with activi- public r. He has coached almost every sport in high school athletics. He coached the first five years of Ben Lomond’s existence and led the basketball team to the State Tournament three times. Mr. Bailey will have to resign as a state senator when he begins his new job. However, it is such a good offer and he will have an increase in pay, so he thinks it will be worth it.
