Show HIGHLANDER Why TUESDAY, Teachers Editor's Tear Their Hair Barking Up the W rong Tree By KEN ALFORD In the past it has been the editorial policy of this newspaper to concern itself chiefly with local problems and concerns; however, inasmuch as this is the last Highlander of the 1971-’72 school year and the last newspaper of which I shall be editor, I wish to deal with a recent development in an international situation. The problem that this article shall deal with is the recent change in the Vietnam conflict and the way American citizens have reacted to it. | You’ve all heard and seen the numerous anti-war protests which have been springing up across the country recently protesting the “step-up” in bombing raids and the mining of North Vietnamese waters, but how many protests have you seen that are directed against the atrocities and acts of aggression that have been and are being committed by the North Vietnamese? Probably very few —if any at all. To PEACEFULLY if your cause is just. protest is quite easily justified — Is the anti-war protestors’ cause just? Agreed, no one in their right mind likes or wants war, but it appears to me that the protestors are ‘“‘barking up the wrong tree.” By RON BRANDENBURG I would like to congratulate Miss Gerber for her bravery in taking the Model United Nations Class to Salt Lake (by herself). Also another feat was accomplished. Miss Gerber showed a great ability not to lose her cool when Kay Schriock and Colleen Bryan obtained the key to her room and tried to interview Miss Gerber at 6:00 a.m. in the morning. Miss Gerber, not anticipating this, was caught in a flashy red nighty. So, in trying not to herself, Miss Gerber, almost losing her cool, threatened Colleen and Kay with “f’’ grades, if they didn’t return her suitcase, But Colleen didn’t show any fear because she knew she was going to get an “f’’ anyway. So the girls left the suitcase there on the car and Miss Gerber was at last forced to get it herself. So now the big question is whether or not Kay and Colleen will get an “f”. If they want the war stopped, why don’t they protest to the source of the conflict?—North Vietnam. I know that nothing fantastic or monumental will come to pass simply because of this editorial; however, if it brings any constructive discussion between opposing viewpoints it has served its purpose. 317 North "Highlander MEH PE Hold Movie The A.F.S.
