Show Academic Information English, one and one-half units of algebra, one unit of plane geometry, and one unit of science. In engineering, one-half unit of trigonometry is also required. In the Life Sciences, one unit of high school algebra is required. In the School of Technology and Trade Technical Education, the programs leading toward a bachelor's degree require one. unit of algebra. If a student does not meet the requirements for admission in his chosen field, he will have to make up these deficiencies in college and will likely need extra time to complete graduation requirements. High School Grades, American College Test (ACT) Scores —Utah high school graduates should strive to achieve a grade point average of at least 2.0 in high school work. (A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, E=0). All students applying for admission to Weber State College must have their ACT test results on file in the Admissions Office before their applications will be processed. The Admissions Committee uses high school achievement and the ACT test results to predict an applicant's college level grade point average. If an applicant's predicted grade point average (PGPA) is less than 1.80 his application will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee. When such applicants are admitted they will be placed on academic warning and assigned to the Guided Studies program. (Refer to Guided Studies, page 81.) Non-Resident or Out-of-State Applicants should present a grade point average of 2.2, in high school work, and have satisfactory scores in the ACT. The Admissions Committee uses high school achievement and test results to determine whether to admit or deny these applicants admission. Applicants who have a predicted grade point average (PGPA) of less than 2.0 will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee and if accepted they will be assigned to the Guided Studies program. (Refer to Guided Studies, page 81.) Admission Other Than High School Credential—A person 21 years of age of over who has not completed a full high school course may be admitted if in the judgment of the Admissions Committee his preparation is adequate. If such a student wishes to graduate from Weber State College, he must meet the college entrance requirements. Credit earned prior to the satisfying of general entrance requirements may not be considered college credit. An applicant may be admitted if he is 18 years of age or over and can pass the high school level General Educational Development Tests with scores specified by the college. A student with this classification who has attended a high school within one year preceding the time of application for admission to Weber State College must submit a written recommendation from the high school principal. 36 Academic Information Admission of Transfer Students—To be admitted to Weber State College, a transfer student from another college or university must submit the following information at least 30 days prior to registration: (1) A Weber State College application for admission, (2) official transcripts showing all college work previously taken, (3) evidence that he is in good standing and eligible to re-enroll at the college or university where he was most recently registered. All transfer students who have completed 15 credit hours or more will not be required to take the ACT, if the equivalent to our English 001 or English 1 was included in the 15 hours. A transfer student must give evidence of having maintained an average of 2.0 (A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, E=0) in his previous college work. Any exceptions to the admissions standards must be approved by the Admissions Committee. If a student transfers from an accredited junior college he will be accepted at Weber State College with upper division standing if he presents evidence of having an associate title, and/if a student has completed a general Education program comparable to the Weber State College general area requirements. If such is not presented, an applicant may be requested to complete general requirements as outlined in this catalog. Readmission of Former Students—A Weber State College student who has interrupted his continuous enrollment in Weber State College by not registering in the Autumn, Winter and Spring Quarters, or by withdrawing from school at any time, must apply to the Admissions Office for readmission. His application must be on file 30 days prior to registration. Admission of Foreign Students—Before a foreign student can be considered for admission, he must submit an application form; health certificate signed by a licensed physician; official transcript in English from each secondary school, college or university attended; certificate, diploma, or government examination report received on completion of secondary school work, and the degree, license, or diploma received on completion of university training abroad. Applicant must submit a financial statement as evidence he has funds adequate for school and living expenses for the full length of time he expects to attend Weber. Applicants from countries where English is not the first language must have their English proficiency approved through TOEFL (Testing of English as a Foreign Language), sponsored by the College Examination Board. The Educational Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey, will administer TOEFL at its established centers abroad, score the sheets, and report the scores to the institutions named by the candidates.
