Show Services of the College 2. The Ogden Rotary Club Fund: A sizeable loan fund for worthy students. 3. The Wheelwright Student-Faculty Loan Fund, established in 1946 by David R. Wheelwright. The contribution of $2,000 was made with the idea that it would be a perpetual trust, fund to be loaned to worthy needy students and to faculty members. 4. Charyea Club Loan Fund, a small loan fund to assist a limited number of students. 5. Aglaia Club Loan Fund, a small loan fund set up to aid students. 6. David R. Evans Memorial Loan Fund, a small loan fund to assist students in need. 7. The National Defense Education Act (NDEA) of 1958, authorized loans to students who are in attendance at, or desire to attend institutions of higher learning and who qualify for assistance according to the terms of the Act. Application for these funds may be made to the Office of Financial Aid. 8. Federally Insured Loans, which are disbursed through commercial banks, are available to students without the requirement of the CSS parents statement. Repayment of the loan is deferred until the student leaves school. Applications for these funds are available from the Office of Financial Aid. WORK-STUDY PROGRAM Work-Study Program—eligible students may receive Work- Study Student Assistantships, working in approximately the same capacity as the regular student Assistantships. In addition, eligible students may work as custodial assistants if they are not qualified for an academic position. To be eligible for the Work-Study Program, a student must be attending Weber State College full time, must maintain a satisfactory grade point average, and must need financial aid. Further information and applications may be obtained from the Financial Aids Office, Room 141, in the Administration Building. College Scholarship Service—Weber State College participates in the College Scholarship Service (CSS) of the College Entrance Examination Board. Participants in CSS subscribe to the principle that the amount of financial aid granted a student should be based upon financial need. The CSS assists colleges and universities and other agencies in determining the student's need for financial assistance. Entering students seeking financial assistance are required to submit a copy of the Parents' Confidential Statement (PCS) form to the College Scholarship Service, designated Weber State College as one of the recip- 70 Services of the College ients, by February 15. The PCS form may be obtained from a secondary school or the College. THE WEBER STATE COLLEGE UNION The Weber State College Union has been provided to assist the student to live a more balanced college life. Students, faculty, and alumni are encouraged to use the facilities and services available. Reservations for meeting spaces and other facilities should be made well in advance. For a list of services available and a statement of policy concerning the operation of the Union, refer to the descriptive brochure available at the Union Building Director's Office. Under the direction of the Program Director, the following committees function: Arts and Crafts, Dance, Exhibits, Films and Lectures, Games, Hospitality, Married Students, Music and Talent, Special Events. Students are invited to apply to studentbody officers, to the committee chairmen, or the Union Staff for assignments to these committees. PLACEMENT BUREAU The Weber State College Placement Bureau is a service organization. The Bureau is dedicated to uphold the aims and the objectives developed through the College Placement Council; "Service to the student; service to the employer; service to the institution." There are three specific functions of the Placement Bureau: (1) to assist students in securing part-time employment while attending college; (2) to assist students who desire to continue their education in various graduate universities; (3) to assist prospective graduates in securing career employment. The Placement Bureau cooperates and works closely with various representatives of local business and industry in addition to the Utah Employment Security Office. The Bureau is also the coordinating agency between students and the many school districts, business, industrial and governmental organizations from many areas of the United States. The Placement Bureau maintains current and accurate information concerning employment and occupational trends both nationally and locally. 71 |
