Show General Education Requirements • English 101,102 - 8 credit hours • Health 101 or 102 or 103 - 2 credit hours • Physical education activities - 3 credit hours • The state requirements in American history, government and Economics • Math competency requirements English competency requirement: All four-year students must complete the eight-hour, sequential college writing series English 101 and 102 with a grade of C- or better. As an alternative, students may receive credit for English 101 and 102 through Advanced Placement or CLEP credits. Students with an ACT test score in English of 17 or above may register for English 101, College Writing. Students with ACT test scores between 0-9 will be placed in English 095. Students with English ACT test scores between 10-16 will be placed in English 096, or may take a placement test in order to be placed in the appropriate English class based on the placement test scores. Physical education activities: Courses must be taken from three different areas within the Physical Education courses numbered from 100-160 (see page 130). Athletics courses numbered from 151-168, and Dance courses numbered from 146-153,247-249, and 251 may also be used to satisfy the Physical Education activities requirements. Any or all of the three required classes may be taken on a credit/no credit basis. The state requirement in American history, government, and economics may be satisfied by any of the following: • Completing one of the following courses: Econ SS274; Hist SS170 or Polsci SSI 10. (These courses may also be applied to general education requirements.) • Presenting advanced placement credit in American history or suitable transfer courses from other institutions. • Passing a special examination administered before the end of the second week of each quarter under the direction of the chair of the Department of History. Mathematics competency requirement: All candidates for the Bachelor of Integrated Studies, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Arts degrees, who upon admission to the College presented ACT math scores below 17, or who were admitted without ACT scores, are required to achieve one of the following before they will be approved for graduation: • A 17 or above on the math section of the ACT test, OR A grade of 2.0 or better in Math 105, OR • A grade of 2.0 or better in a math course that has Math 105 as a prerequisite. REQUIREMENTS FOR GENERAL EDUCATION The General Education Program described in the following sections is required of all students who receive a bachelor degree from Weber State College. To provide the broadest possible background in general education, the selection of courses should depend upon the high school preparation. The student who has done well in a high school course in a given field should not select a course that might repeat essentially the same subject matter. HUMANITIES AREA • Bachelor of Arts: Select 15 credit hours from at least 4 groups. • Bachelor of Science: Select 9 credit hours from at least 2 groups. • Bachelor of Integrated Studies: Select 12 credit hours from at least 3 groups. • One literature course is required for all three degrees.
