Show Machine Tool Maintenance Technology General Information A STUDENT MUST SELECT ONE OF TWO OPTIONS LISTED BELOW. MACHINE TOOL TECHNOLOGY COURSES - MACHTL d) 050. Machine Tool (1-5) A non-credit class for students who want to machine hobby or home projects. Persons may register for one to five credit hours, with each registered hour of credit allowing them 3 hours of lab time per week. The student must buy any material used on the project. Lab fee required. Prerequisite: Previous machine shop training or work experience. 100. Machining Principles I (2) Principles of tool grinding, metal cutting, measurements, lathe and drill press operations. Two lectures per week. 101. Machine Process I (2.5-5) Fundamental lathe (manual and numerical control) and drill press operations and bench work. Five 3-hour labs per week. 102. Machining Principles II (2) Principles of precision milling , drilling, boring and shaping (manual and numerical control) Prerequisite: Machti 100. Two lectures. 103. Machine Processes II (2.5-5) Fundamental milting machine, advanced lathe and drilling operations. Prerequisite Machti 101. Five 3-hour labs per week. 104. Machining Principles III (2) Principles of heat treatment of metals and principles of surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, internal grinding, and tool and cutter grinding. Prerequisite: Machti 102. Two lectures. 105. Machine Processes III (2.5-5) Heat treatment of metal parts and tools; surface grinding, cylindrical grinding, internal grinding, tool and cutter grinding. Prerequisite: Machti 103. Five 3-hour labs per week. 189. Cooperative Work Experience. (1-6) Open to all first year students in Machine Tool Technology. The course objectives for each student will be developed between the student, the department, and a suitable employer providing the opportunity for on- the-job experience. Evaluation of course participants will be shared between the employer, the student, and the department, and career services (Co-op). 200. Tool Principles I (2) Fundamental principles of tool making: types of tooling, dies, tool grinding. Prerequisite: Machti 104. Two lectures. 201. Tool Building I (2.5-5) Tool making and precision machining (manual and numerical control) processes. Prerequisite: Machti 105. Five 3-hour labs per week. 202. Tooling Principles II (2) Types of drill jigs, milling, grinding and turning fixtures; standard parts, fitting of drill bushings. Prerequisite: Machti 200. Two lectures. 203. Tool Building III (2.5-5) Jigs and fixtures fabrication (using manual and numerical control machining). Prerequisite: Machti 201. Five 3-hour labs per week. 204. Die and Mold Principles (2) Principles of die and mold building and repair. Tolerances, finishes and functions. Prerequisite: Machti 202. Two lectures. 205. Die and Mold Building (2.5-5) Building and repair of dies and molds for plastic and metal part production. Prerequisite: Machti 203. Five 3-hour labs per week. 206. CNC Lathe Principles (2) Covering tool set-up, fixturing, program loading and execution, and off sets. Prerequisites: Machti 104,105; Mfentc 244, 345. Two lectures per week. 207. CNC Lathe Applications (2.5-5) Covering tool set up, fixturing, program loading and execution, and offsets. Prerequisites: Machti 104,105; Mfentc 244, 345. Four 3-hour labs per week. 208. CNC Mill Principles (2) Covering tool set-up fixturing, program loading and execution and offsets. Prerequisites: Machti 206,207; Mfentc 326. Two lectures per week. 209. CNC Mill Applications (2.5-5) Covering tool set-up, fixturing, program loading and execution, and offsets. Prerequisite: Machti 206,207; Mfentc 326. Four 3-hour labs per week. 289. Cooperative Work Experience (1-6) Open to all second year students in Machine Tool Technology. A continuation of Machti 189. 292. Short Courses, Workshops, Institutes and Special Programs (1-6) In order to provide flexibility and to meet many different needs, a number of specific offerings are possible using this catalog number. When the number is used it will be accompanied by a specific descriptive title. The specific title with the credit authorized for the particular offering will appear on the student transcript. 238 NOTE: Machine Tool lab fees: Lab fees will be charged as necessary. See quarterly schedule. MAINTENANCE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM This program prepares students to install and maintain industrial equipment. There are three separate certificate and degree programs to meet differing student interests and industry needs - a one-year Institutional Certificate, a two-year Institutional Diploma, and a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree. Must have departmental approval. PROGRAM: MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE General Requirements: • A minimum of 105 credit hours. • A minimum of 67 credit hours in major field. • Engl 101 (3), Commun HU 102 (3). • A GPA of 2.00 with a C or better in major courses. • At least 20 hours of General Education with at least one course in each of the four areas: Humanities HU, Natural Science NS, Social Science SS, and Personal Development PD. Industrial Equipment Maintenance (5) Terminology, principles and practices of trouble shooting and preventive maintenance of industrial equipment. Two 1-hour lectures and three 3-hour labs.
