Show • Theatre Arts bachelor of arts or the bachelor of science degree. All majors must prepare to submit to the faculty during the senior year (and prior to application for graduation) some manner of comprehensive showing (e.g., portfolio, recital, etc.) of their abilities in the area of theatre. They are also encouraged to seek summer employment in stock or repertory companies relating to their interests. Weber State Theatre Season The yearly theatrical season includes productions mounted in the Monson, Allred, and Austad theatres. Because of these superior theatre facilities, a wide variety of productions is mounted in proscenium and flexible situations. The theatre season is offered by the Department of Performing Arts as part of the Performing Arts Series. The Utah Musical Theatre The Utah Musical Theatre provides the focal point for exciting summer musical theatre in the western region. Faculty, staff and student participants are selected by audition and application. PROGRAM: COMPOSITE MUSIC THEA TRE EMPHASIS BACHELOR DEGREE General Requirements: Specific College Requirements (see index). Requirements for General Education (see index). No minor is required. All major courses must be a C (2.00) or better. Must achieve an overall GPA of C (2.00) or better. 183 total credit hours are required. Sixty of the total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). Specific Requirements: • Theatre Arts courses required (52-54 credit hours): IHH FOUNDATION BLOCK: Theatr 100 (3) plus 6 other credits from the following: HU101 (3), HU102 (3), HU110 (3), 120 (3), 121 (3), 122 (3), 130 (3). Theatre Arts General Information ill DEVELOPMENTAL BLOCK: Theatr 311 (3) plus 27 credits as follows: • Design/Tech (minimum 6 credit hours): Theatr 320 (3), 321, 322, 323 (3), 220 (3), 221 (3), 324 (3), 325 (3). • Acting/Directing (minimum 3 credit hours): Theatr 210 (3), 211 (4), 212 (3), 305 (3), 310 (3). • History/Research (minimum 12 credit hours): Theatr 330 (4), 331 (4), 230 (3), 332 (4). • Management (minimum 3 credit hours): Theatr 240 (3), 340 (3); Commun 305 (3); Mgmt 300 (3). • One emphasis course (3). NOTE: No more than three seminar, workshop, or short course credits may be applied to requriements for the major in any track. No seminar, workshop, or short course may be applied toward requirements for the major in the History/Research track. A rationale describing connections between the major's chosen area of emphasis and must be submitted to and approved by the Theatre Arts coordinator to receive credit toward the major. PINNACLE, INTERDISCIPLINARY AND PRODUCTION SUPPLEMENT BLOCKS ARE NOT REQUIRED FOR THE MINOR. PROGRAM: THEATRE ARTS TEACHING MAJOR BACHELOR DEGREE General Requirements: Specific College Requirements (see index). Requirements for General Education (see index). Psych SSI01 (5) in the Social Science area is recommended for Theatre Arts Teaching majors. A minor is required. Theatre Arts Teaching majors must have a C or better in major courses. Theatre Arts Teaching majors must achieve an overall 2.50 GPA. 183 total hours are required for this degree. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). Students obtaining a Theatre Arts Teaching major must satisfy the School of Education Certification Program (see Teacher Education Program). These courses must include the following: Educl95 (1), 300 (2), 301 (4), 303 (3), 305 (3), 462 (4), 463 (4), 495 (15), 499 (3). Specific Requirements: • Minimum of 59 credit hours. • Because of the specific knowledge necessary for a secondary teaching career, the following courses are required for the Teaching Major (59 credit hours): Theatr 100 (3), HU110 (3), 121 (3), 210 (3), 211 (4), 212 (3), 220 (3), 221 (3), 275 (2), 311 (3), 323 (3), 330 (4), 331 (4), 332 (4), 340 (3), 411 (3), 471 (3), 480 (1-3), 499 (3). • Support course required: Commun HU 102 (3). PROGRAM: THEATRE ARTS TEACHING MINOR General Requirements: • A grade of C or better in minor courses. Specific Requirements: • Minimum of 23 credit hours. • Because of the specific knowledge necessary for asecondary teaching career, the following courses are required for the Teaching Major (24 credit hours): Theatr 100 (3), 110 (3), 121 (3), 122 (3), 212 (3), 275 (2), 311 (3), 471 (3). PROGRAM: THEATRE ARTS HONORS General Requirements: • Enroll in General Honors Program and complete at least 10 hours of General Honors courses (see the Interdisciplinary Programs section of the catalog). • Maintain an overall GPA of 3.3 • Fulfill the requirements for one of the Theatre Arts majors, or Communication and Theatre Arts Teaching major. Specific Requirements: • In fulfilling one of the Theatre Arts majors, take at least twenty hours among these requirements in courses taken for Theatre Arts Honors credit. • Complete a Theatre Arts Honors Senior Project. • A student may receive Theatre honors credit in any of the following courses: Theatr 311 (3), 321 (3), 322 (3), 323 (3), 324 (3), 330 (4), 331 (4), 332 (4), 340 (3), 412 (4), 483 (3), 499 (3).
