Show Marriott-Slaterville City History October 2019 Marriott-Slaterville Monthly History October 2019 Temperatures turned unseasonably cold early in October this year, but we didn't have any precipitation to speak of for the month. The 12'*^ Annual George E. Whalen Veterans Tribute Run and Chili Cook-Off were held on Saturday, October 12*^. This event was co-sponsored by the George E. Wahlen Veterans Home and the First United Methodist Church to support the veterans residing at the Veterans Home. Our semi-annual Fall Clean-up was held at the Slaterville and Marriott Parks on October 19th and 20'^ This year is an election year for our community's City Council. The "at large" seat was contested with Dee Christoffersen and Stacy Palen as candidates. A "Meet the Candidates Night" was held on October 24, 2019 at 6:30 pm at the City Office Building. Our annual Halloween Trunk-or-Treat was held at the Slaterville Park on Thursday, October 31^\ The annual Holiday Boutique will take place on November 16^^ at the City Offices. Admission and vendor spaces are free. Crafts and unique handmade gifts will be available to purchase at this event. All City Parks closed on October 15'*^ and have been winterized for the season. The pressurized secondary water was also shut down and winterized. Planning Commission Meeting - Cancelled City Council Meeting - Cancelled Bits and Pieces Bridger Shawn Gibson was born to Jessica and Shawn Gibson on October 10, 2019. As talk continues of turning unincorporated western Weber County into a city, proponents say one of the next steps is coming up with a name for the proposed new locale. Three public meetings have been held on incorporation plans and another was set for October 15^*^. The four areas in the zone that would become a city are Warren, West Warren, Taylor and West Weber. The would-be city, home to around 4,700 people, is located in the expanse west of Plain City, Marriott-Slaterville and West Haven, currently a mix of agricultural land and new residential subdivisions managed largely by Weber County government. Several Utah vape shops sued the state's Department of Health over its emergency rule restricting the sale of flavored e-cigarettes amid a national outbreak of lung damage linked to vaping.
