Show Marriott-Slaterville 4 Volxime XXI Issue 12 The Pioneer Post Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter December 2019 1570 West 400 North - Phone 801-627-1919 - www.marTiott-slaterville.org Christmas Message by Council Vice-President Dennis Ilium Another year is coming to an end. I am amazed to see all the accomplishments of our small community over the past year. We had, what some say, was the best Fourth of July Celebration in our City history this summer. It was like a giant family reunion with children and grandchildren of all ages roaming the Marriott Park. Also, this year we continued to work on the General Plan as FEMA is updating the Flood Plain in the City. Work on the General Plan will continue into the next year. All new houses and businesses in the City are now subject to compliance with the requirements of the Dark Sky Ordinance. It is hoped that the stars will continue to shine in Marriott-Slaterville City into the future. Please ask your friends or relatives in our neighboring cities to get their communities to enact dark sky regulations so that we can keep the stars in westem Weber County shining. The 1200 West Reconstruction Project has been a challenge this year. Unfortunately, the road had to be closed during construction because the survey revealed many obstacles requiring the entire sub-grade be replaced. This was a great inconvenience for many. The road is now rebuilt and reopened. Landscaping improvements along the road will continue next year. The Mayor, City Council, and staff worked hard this year to benefit the community. The City adopted a first of its kind "Agriculture in the Community" Ordinance to support Farm-to-Market and Agri-tourism. The Art Show, Garden Market, and Fall Boutique continue to grow providing opportunities for local residents to feature their crafts and produce. Our Youth Council this fall sponsored a successful Veterans' Dinner. It was a touching and somber event. The Youth Council is dedicated to provide opportunities for our youth to leam about local government and foster community. The senior citizen programs remain strong. I encourage residents 60-1- to join us for lunch at City Hall each Tuesday at 11:30 AM. On behalf of Marriott-Slaterville City I wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. You can take comfort that your local government will continue into the next year with no debt and a strive for excellence. Now, in the coming year, I challenge you to reach out to a neighbor, meet a new resident, attend a community event, and support your local community.
