Unit SALT LAKE CITY, March 17 One hundred years ago today the National Womans Relief society of the Latter day Saints church was organized long before women generally were given the right to vote or own property. Since that time, members of the Relief society have worked unceasingly nursing the sick, comforting the dying and serving generally in health and child welfare and other important church and community programs, Mrs. Amy Brown Lyman, president, said during a centennial observance in the Yalecrest ward chanel here. Mar 16 42 One of the horrors of the war is being enacted in Greece where the people are starving. Eye witnesses, who have made their way to Cairo, report half the population will die before the war ends, if relief is not given. One of the brutalities has ben the robbing of the people of their seed wheat by the German invaders. It is estimated 150,000 to 200,000 Greeks have died of starvation. That means grownups are haggard and thin from unappeased hunger and little children are crying for something to eat. Greek prayers for bread are going unanswered. Let us resolve not to fall victims to the brigands who are inflicting starvation on nations that fall under their mastery. Mar 17 1942 Takes Over in Down Under Land AT YOUR SERVICE, SIR . . . Gen. Douglas MacArthur (above) today was named supreme commander of forces in Australia where he has arrived by plane from the Philippines. The above photograph was taken recently as he celebrated his sixty second birthday in the thick of an already historic Philippine campaign. On his anniversary he led his gallant band of American and Filipino troops in a counter attack which shattered heavily superior Jap lines.
