WOMEN OF AMERICA, WAKE UP (Editors Note: Miss Vella Satterthwaite of Logan, author of the following appeal to the women of America, has been an energetic Republican worker for several years. In 1941 she represented The Utah Republican in Cache County.) Mary, the mother of Jesus, bore Him in a lowly manger. That son gave His life to save mankind. Regardless of our race or creed, He gave us the only plan for a universal peace. He also gave us our free agency so that we could live in this mortal sphere as our strength, courage and will power would have us live. He made men in such a plastic mold that with their own (Continued on page 4) never obtain for us. Are we as the women of America going to desert that true Pioneer spirit when we know deep down in our hearts that we need it today at this hour more than ever before in our worlds history? With the beckoning call of the alluring displays of feminine fashion in all the shop windows, are we going to insist that because we, or our men, are on the government payroll, that we must join the parade in the most up to the minute outfit, or are we going to be women in the fullest sense of the word and get down to earth and face facts and live sanely and soberly and religiously, and back our men with our lifes blood as we did when we brought them into the world. I plead with you to determine now to have an individual ALL OUT on silly and idle chatter.on unnecessary whims, wishes, and fancies and win this war as we the women can do. We need our men to make our lives complete and happy to fulfill Gods Commandment to multiply and replenish the earth and subdue it so that we can master its forces and bring about a universal and permanent peace. Men are just boys grown tall hearts dont change much after all. No one ever got closer to a mans heart than a woman, and no one can influence his mind and his actions more than a woman. Of woman he was born. Give him your all in this crisis and God will grant us universal peace and the brotherhood of man much faster than all the defense bonds money can buy. Do your buying of bonds and all out war materials with your womanhood in its fullest sense and your returns will go far beyond the duration and your interest on your investment will be never ending. Let each individual woman defend the citadel within her heart and soul by living the truth, by standing by her guns for right, and the triumph will be greater than any we have ever known. Right makes might. Let us die as Christ did, if need be, with that thought in mind. Again please hear and heed this plea, Women of America. The closed mind is usually characterized by stupidity and self satisfaction. Ignorance and conceit are disinclined to learn.Our moods are like wild horses and we must endeavor to conquer them, without killing their spirit, before they can be of use to us. A. T. Everett. Males Outnumber Females in Utah WASHINGTON, May 18 Men and boys outnumbered women and girls in Idaho 276,479 to 248 294 as of April 1, 1940, the census bureau reported today. For Utah the fgiures were 278,620 males and 271,690 females. Of the total Idaho population only 14,457 males and 9659 females were foreign born. In Utah 16 572 males and 15,726 females were foreign born. For the country as a whole the figures were 66,061,592 males of which 5,408,123 were foreign born In Salt Lake City, the only city in the two states for which figures were given, females outnumbered males 76,705 to 73,229 There 6845 females and 3495 foreign born males.
