Show Robert H. Hinckley Airport When the city commissioners of Ogden named our airport Robert H. Hinckley Airport they paid tribute to one who has given, what many believe to be, the greatest contribution by any citizen to the cause of aviation in the United States. Long before the nation was aroused to the vital need of airships as a defense measure, our assistant U. S. secretary of commerce was vigorously advocating the enlarging of our air service in the commercial field and in our armed forces. He stood so high in aeronautics that President Roosevelt sent him over to England in May, 1941, to report on the British situation and lend what aid he might to the cause of the air defense of the British isles. He is regarded in Washington as one of the outstanding men of the administration. He was the man who in 1929 inspired the building of our first municipal airport and he has been an all important factor in bringing about the construction of our present airport which is to be most modern. Mr. Hinckley is deserving of all the honors we can bestow on him as a citizen of this community and one who stands high in the affairs of the nation. Justice Alfred Budge...To be granted honorary degree.U. of I. Will Pay Honor To Gem State Jurist Slates Honorary Degree of Law For Justice Alfred Budge; Serves Supreme Court 27 Years May 17 1942 MOSCOW, Idaho Justice Alfred Budge, member of Idahos supreme court 27 years and its chief justice five times, will be granted an honorary degree as doctor of laws at University of Idaho commencement exercises June 1. This is the highest honor which the university can bestow, said President Harrison C. Dale in a letter to the veteran jurist informing him of the award. I hope you will be willing to accept it as an evidence of the esteem and regard, as a jurist and as a gentleman, in which you are so widely held. Budge, who estimates he has written upwards of 1000 opinions and taken part in many other matters requiring legal investigation during his service on the bench, has eight sons and daughters. Six have college degrees. The degree to be conferred upon him here will be the fourteenth in the family, since several members have more than one. Two sons are physicians and two are lawyers. Two daughters have masters as well as bachelors degrees. Born in Providence, Utah, Budge was educated at Provo and Logan academies and awarded a degree in law in 1892 at the University of Michigan, where in 1919 he was given an honorary master of arts degree. |
