Student-To-Student Program Telephone: 801-626-7027 Location: Student Services, Room 150 Since 2003, this program has been a pipeline partnership for Ogden City School District (OCSD) and Weber State University. Serving two middle schools (Mt. Ogden and Mound Fort) and two high schools (Ogden & Ben Lomond), Student-to-Student provides hands on interventions to students desiring to continue their education beyond high school. Students from the university act as mentors within the school and selected classrooms, encouraging students and assisting them with schoolwork and providing insight to college life and admissions. The program's focus is college readiness, academic support, and parental involvement. EDUCATIONAL TALENT SEARCH (TRIO PROGRAM) Telephone: 801-626-7369 Location: Student Services, Room 150 Educational Talent Search (ETS) College Bound is a federally- funded program that is designed to help primarily underrepresented students who are low-income, first in their family to attend and graduate from college. In partnership with Ben Lomond and Ogden high schools, Mound Fort and Mt. Ogden middle schools, we serve 600 students, grades 7-12 from our four target schools in the Ogden School District each year. Services include academic advising, career and college planning, admission application assistance, financial aid/scholarship assistance, college entrance examination preparation, and referral to community resources. GEAR UP Partnership (TRIO Program) Telephone: 801-626-7320 Location: Student Services, Room 150 Weber State University is partnering with the Ogden City Schools' GEAR UP Grant that will serve 875 students in the three Junior Highs—Mount Ogden, Highland, and Mount Fort—and then advance into the high schools, Ben Lomond and Ogden to provide college readiness services to the 7th grade cohort and then follow them through 12th grade. WSU will primarily support this grant through a college readiness coordinator who will recruit, hire, and coordinate volunteers and tutors to provide academic support services to the participants and serve as a liaison to the grant for WSU resources and support. Upward Bound (TRIO Program) Telephone: 801-626-6798 Location: Annex 10 Website: About Upward Bound Program • Funded by federal grants to help low income/first generation high school students from Davis and Weber counties prepare for higher education 25 • Designed to provide a pre-college educational experience for selected high school students in Davis and Weber Counties • Students must meet the federal guidelines set by the Department of Education in order to participate • Serve approximately 75 students annually from five area high schools: Ben Lomond, Ogden, Clearfield, Layton and Northridge • Program purpose is to increase the number of non-traditional students who enter and graduate from college Academic Year Programming • Tutorial instruction in literature, composition, foreign languages, mathematics, history, computer enhancement training and general science courses in an after school setting at the five target high schools • Saturday morning study hall • Individual counseling for students with personal or academic concerns • Monthly social, cultural and recreational activities • ACT preparation Six-Week Summer Residential Program • Upward Bound offers a summer academic enhancement program held on the campus of Weber State University • Students live in the residence halls, attend enrichment classes and participate in social, cultural and recreational activities Student Support Services (TRIO Program) Telephone: 801-626-7009 Location: Student Services, Suite 265-279 Website: weber.edu/sss The Federal Government, through the Department of Education under Title IV, funds the Student Support Service Program. Each student who is admitted into the program meets with an advisor Together the student and the advisor explore the student's academic needs and the resources available to develop an individualized system of support. • Services limited to 285 qualified students per year who meet one or more of the following criteria: o Demonstrated financial need o First generation college student o Disabled students (physical or learning disability) • Peer tutoring by appointment, upper as well as lower division • Financial aid supplement • Textbook loan program • Workshops including math competency, speed reading and study skills Veterans Upward Bound (TRIO Program) Telephone: 801-626-7173 Location: Annex 12 Website: weber.edu/vetsupwardbound Veterans Upward Bound provides qualified veterans academic support services that assist them in developing the academic skills necessary to be successful in their post-secondary education experience.
