Adams, David R. Terry. The Department of Microbiology provides instruction in professional and liberal arts curricula for the baccalaureate degree. Students may complete either a major or a minor in Microbiology. A program leading to a career in Public Health is also available in the department. Departmental Major: Students wishing to complete a major in the department should take the following courses: Microbiology 1, 50, 60, 158, 159, 161, 190 (3 credits), 191 (1 to 3 credits) plus an additional eighteen hours of departmental courses; Chemistry 24, 25, 26, 107, 131, 132; Mathematics 14, 18; Physics 5 (Physics 51 through 56 recommended for students who plan to continue on to a graduate program); Zoology 20, 30. Basic and area requirements of the College must be met. Departmental Minor: A minimum of twenty-five credits in departmental courses, ten of which should be upper division. Public Health: Persons wishing to follow careers in Public Health are encouraged to take the courses listed above for the departmental major including Microbiology 1, 5, 120, 170 plus the following: Economics 50, Health Education 110, 195; Sociology 135; Zoology 148, 150 or 155.
