Screen print ing I (3) Introduction to the screenprinting process with emphasis on the basic techniques of cut film, paper stencil, tusche resist and simple photographic stencils. 224. Lithography I (3) Introduction to lithography with emphasis on crayon and tusche techniques and black and white printings. 231. Ceramics I (3) Introduction to ceramic design and forming techniques including hand building and wheel throwing. Raku and stoneware firing techniques. 235. Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design I (3) Introduction to tools, metals and other materials with emphasis on basic techniques including: sawing, soldering forming, finishing. Casting will be introduced. 241. Lettering II (3) Advanced pen and brush free-hand lettering structure: concentration on design and skill with written forms. Prerequisite: Art 141 or consent of instructor. 242. Computer Aided Art and Design (3) Studio projects in art and design using the computer as a primary tool for drawing and image processing. Art for Elementary Teachers (3) Theory and practice of teaching art in the elementary schools. 254. Weaving I (3) Introduction to 4-harness floor loom weaving. Includes basic weave and fiber structure and techniques. 260. Painting I (3) Introduction to painting materials and their functions. Emphasis on the basic understanding of the painting media of oil and acrylic. The construction and design of paintings and investigations into the character and actions of paint upon a variety of surfaces. 265. Watercolor Painting I (3) Introduction to watercolor painting. 270. Sculpture I (3) Introduction to tools and materials with emphasis on the techniques of modeling, carving, casting and constructing. 283. Directed Readings (1-5) Individually chosen readings on specialized topics supervised by a faculty member. Prerequisite: Consent of faculty supervisor prior to registration. 289. Cooperative Work Experience (1-9) Participation with local artist employers for on-the job art work experience. Open to all first and second year students in the art program.
