Show wildcats rout yellowjackets topple defending champs The first road trip of the season was a successful one as the Purple and White routed Eastern Montana 42-7. Sark stated after the game, "Our offense is looking better now ..." and the 42 points proved it. The other half of the team proved it could play 40 minutes of football as they limited the Yellowjackets to a -7 yards rushing. Montana State captured last year's Big Sky crown and on paper they looked like they could repeat. They brought a 2-0 record to Ogden following their 17-0 victory over Wichita State the week before. Weber had to battle back, but they pulled the game out of the fire in the last quarter as Owens, again, scored a fourth-quarter TD to give the 'Cats a 19-16 win. Tony McKinnon closes in on a Montana State Bobcat.' montana nips weber 15-14 Both Montana and Weber State finished in the conference cellar last year and although they didn't know it at the time, this game was to have a very important effect on this year's conference outcome. Weber jumped off to a 14-0 lead at the intermission, but the Grizzlies fought back and tied the game in the fourh quarter. A two-point conversion play put them ahead 15-14. The Wildcats could not muster up another tally and they lost their only game of the year. Joe "The Toe," boots an extra point in game with Montana. whitworth downed 44-13 Weber State put 34 points on the scoreboard in the second half while allowing the Whitworth Pirates only one touchdown. The game was never close as the Wildcats led at intermission 10-7 and then broke the game open in the second half. Despite the close half-time score, Weber was in control all the way. The 44 points scored against Whitworth broke the record set earlier in the year when the 'Cats downed Eastern Montana 42-7. Quarterback Clyde Latta rolls out and looks downfield for a receiver. |
