Show Paul Neuenswander, student body president of Weber State College, volunteered the following statement about his year in office. "I have appreciated being able to serve as student body president of WSC. It has given me an opportunity to work with and understand many individuals I would have never had the chance to know. My responsibility had a wide range of activity; from conducting meetings and working through problems; to attending dinners. There has been much started and much completed and I am grateful to all of the people active in student government for their support and help." "My duties include my service as co-chairman of the community service bureau, fine arts series, member of the union building policy board, awards and honors, and publications board. And if I have any more responsibilities, I'm not doing them!" Commenting about an activity he helped coordinate this year, Bob commented on the game train to Idaho State. "I have been really pleased with the success of the game train. This has been the most successful game train we have ever had. Two years ago six cars were only partly filled. But this year, we have nine cars, with some students standing." As public relations man, Bob was directly responsible for advertising such events as the game train. Its success is indicative of his effort and ability to get the job done. In a Signpost interview with John Hart, student government editor, Bill Washburn, legislative vice-president made the following assertions. "I don't think Weber State will ever be a university. We don't as a state, have the capacity to finance another university. For example, our parents pay taxes comparative or higher than any other state in the west, including California." Bill then went on to explain that students at Weber are active and "we should feel proud of them for supporting themselves." Bill then attacked the offices school leaders hold. "As student-body officers we become an arm of the administration. We are so involved with it all; the Deans, vice presidents; it's like we aren't students any more. We have so many privileges we lose our identity as students. I'll have to be honest, I don't know the remedy, but I think many times students aren't represented because we have a vested interest." "The most rewarding part of my office is the experience I've had working with interesting people. I've been associated with many different organizations both on and off campus and have also had the opportunity to participate in the development of pass-fail grading and other new programs." So stated the financial vice-president, Norm Frost. The financial vice-president is responsible for $140,000. Concerning his responsibilities, Norm stated, :"any student who wants to can look at any budget he wants. The school is not trying to keep anything from anybody. "When funds are allocated by the senate to different organizations, to spend according to the budget passed by the senate, it is my responsibility to make sure they spend it in thatway. It is also my duty to make sure they don't go over their certain allotment. "However, I do take certain fund requisitions to the senate because I think they merit more opinions than just mine." Terry Hale, activities vice-president assumed the following responsibilities about his year in office. "I guess I could safely say that my term as Activities vice-president has been one of the great experiences of my life. I entered the job with great fear and trem-bling, but the outstanding talent on the Activities Board has made my job not only easier, but even fun. I worked with the finest group of people assembled at Weber State. Thanks gang." Terry's main responsibility was to coordinate the Activities Board, consisting of 10 positions and a secretary. The chairmen of the committees made up these positions, and part of his responsibility was their selection last spring. The board met every Tuesday at noon. The theme chosen for the Activity Board this year was "think creatively." While speaking about Homecoming this year Terry felt that the one thing that impressed him most was the cooperation that the community offered. The Chamber of Commerce even sent a newsletter around, instructing the stores to have their employees wear a homecoming badge. Accomplishments such as these were made a success by the dedication of Terry and the people he worked with. |
