HARVEST BALL The Harvest Ball, sponsored by AWS, encouraged participation at dances by allowing the female of the species to initiate a date with whom she chose. One of the more successful dances of the year, the Harvest Ball saw a number of new couples as the girls got the guys they had been gawking at for quite a while. New acquaintances were made, new friendships formed. But then, there's always another side to every coin. Some weren't formed and some were broken. But whichever way one looks at it, for one evening a large group of people got together and forgot about the world around them as they enjoyed themselves. BLACK STUDENT UNION An organization which has seen a lot of action this year was the Black Student Union. In a series of rallies against white supremacy, the black man stood up and said that he was black and proud of it. In an attempt to terminate racial prejudices they accused football coach Sark Arslanian of discriminatory action. They also demanded a Black Studies program to be initiated. Campus administrators failed to respond to the demands, but began by having serious discussions with the blacks to help them. A racial issues class was also initiated to bring the two forces together. Black Emphasis Week was presented from February 2 through 6 in an effort to acquaint everyone with black culture.
