Show ORIENTATION Freshman orientation took on a whole new concept this year as Michael D. Richards headed the committee. He strove to find a way to orient the students to WSC without alienating them. Many freshman orientations before led the students to believe that it was a waste of time. So, Mike set about constructing a new type of orientation. Of special interest were the conducted tours. Members of the upper classes showed small groups of freshmen around the campus. The only snag seemed to hit when the new science building was approached. Freshmen and upper classmen alike went in the wrong doors, out the wrong doors, and consequently, no one knew exactly what to do or say about that building. The moratorium was a nationwide demonstration in the name of peace. More than 300 Weber State students stood and listened to a number of people give their views on why we should make a peaceful settlement. Many of the members of the Liberal Students group wore black arm bands. Another, smaller group stood up against the feelings of the moratorium and passed out little red cross-type buttons with the American flag represented on them. Students throughout the campus expressed varied opinions. While some supported the movement completely, others were reluctant to say. Politics flew through the air as the political figures at school were either standing back laughing or holding a demonstratration sign and standing on the front row. |
