Show From Weber gridiron to defense of Hawaii. Buildings and grounds remained unchanged; faculty and classes seemed about the same. But the declaration of war in the Far East brought a subtle change to Weber College. Interclass rivalry disintegrated. Cooperation became the keynote of the day. Already the enrollment had been decreased by the rush workers to defense positions. For quite some time the brightly lighted vocational building had been running shifts night and day. The departure of student body president Jack Larsen brought into sharper relief the possibility of war. Then it came. At first it may have seemed strange to the girls to attend first aid classes and to learn something of auto mechanics. Both freshmen and sophomores cut down the gallons of cokes consumed per capita to invest their dimes in defense stamps and bonds-proof of a deep-seated loyalty to the principles of freedom for which America stands. Forgetting hysteria and mob-fear, the college as a whole became a unit with but one idea-cooperation and unity. There is no Class IV at Weber.
