Show Charles C. Espy, Adviser Maurine Duffin, Editor LaMar Buckner, Business Manager The past year at Weber stands a head higher than many of its predecessors. It has been one of changes and losses. After the declaration of war with Japan, the pressure of the ever-growing pyramid of war-filled headlines weighed heavily on the school budget. At each Board of Control meeting some member of the Acorn staff held his breath as if hoping to stave off another budget cut. Artificial respiration in the form of a new cover shape, different type, the best of art work, and the patriotic theme itself has saved the Acorn from a dusty grave. Literary, business, photography, and art staffs of the 1942 Acorn aptly handled the ball of aesthetic creation. These competent sophomores and aspiring freshmen made few errors. BUSINESS STAFF Front Row: Marjorie Stuart, Marvel Murphy, Cordelia Niland. Back Row: Jack Davis, Mr. Clark, Adviser. LITERARY STAFF Front Row: Kay Huss, Arlene Paul, Yoshi Sato, Helen Mally. Second Row: Pauline Black, Lorraine Dame, Emmett Wiggins, Pat Meissner, Louise England. Back Row: Alice Hodges, Lesbeth Lucas, Lorraine Cook, Roy Gibson. Pleasant-voiced Maurine Duffin does not seem to fill the picture of the typical hard-boiled yearbook editor. But the 1942 Acorn stands a firm monument to her creative talents and business ability. Backing up Maurine and helping her overcome the handicaps of a reduced budget, extraordinary freshman John Vernieu, associate editor; capable LaMar Buckner, business manager, and chief staff adviser, Charles Espy, did their parts well. PHOTOGRAPHY AND ART STAFF Front Row: Mr. Collett, Art Adviser; Ray Kerr, Photography Editor; Dr. Miner, Photography Adviser; J. M. Heslop, David Meyer, Billy Johnson, Art Editor. 1942 Acorn |
