Show Leland H. Monson Debate Coach Maurice Richards LaMar Buckner Debate at Weber College this year was completed with the usual fine record. Under the competent leadership of Mr. Monson, who is an honorary member of Tau Kappa Alpha, national debate fraternity, Weber's teams journeyed back and forth across the nation, defending the honor of their school. At the first tournament of the regional Phi Rho Pi, Weber men and women placed in Debate, Extemp, Oratory, Impromptu and Interpretive Reading. Soon after this, Weber played host at the annual Western States Association Tournament, and in December, Weber's representatives traveled to California for the Pomona College Tournament, capturing, through the efforts of LaMar Buckner and John Vernieu, a high place in debate. Maurine Duffin LaRene Jensen Wayne Carver Roy Gibson Weber was again invaded by speakers as our college welcomed a large group of speakers to the annual high school tournament, sponsored by the English department. Students who helped in the management of the tournament were LaMar Buckner, Maurine Duffin, and Walter Cable. Weber was well represented at the National Phi Rho Pi when six members of the squad journeyed to Excelsior Springs, Missouri, to the tournament sponsored by Wentworth Military Academy. Weber was honored this year not only by her placing in these contests-one of her students was unusually recognized when LaMar Buckner was elected president of the intermountain division of the debate fraternity, Phi Rho Pi.
