Show Educational Resource Programs consult a facility schedule for open recreation available at the HPEC Complex. Weber State LD. cards required during informal recreation hours and weekends. Sport Clubs The sport club program involves students, faculty, and staff which compete against local, state, regional, and national college and university teams in a variety of sports. Included are: Billiards, racquetball, rodeo, skiing, softball, soccer, fencing, swimming, cycling, bowling, volleyball, table tennis and martial arts. People interested in starting up a new club should contact the Campus Recreation Office, 626-6637, which is open from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Wilderness Recreation Center The Wilderness Recreation Center rents recreational equipment such as cross-country skis, snowboards, camping equipment, game equipment, white water rafts, mountain bikes, and canoes at nominal fees. It also coordinates trips and programs for courses and organizations. CAREER SERVICES CENTER Director: Steven Eichmeier Location: Shepherd Union, Room 280 Telephone: 626-6393 The Career Services Center provides information and services designed to increase employment opportunities and career/life awareness for students and alumni of Weber State. Four interrelated programs help achieve this goal: • Career Information, Advisement, and Counseling • Cooperative Education and Internships • Job service and Student Employment Referral • Career Employment Referral and On-Campus Interviewing Career Counselors provide help to students as early as possible to guide them into rewarding career and life choices. Cooperative education and Internship professionals help to achieve alliances among undergraduate students, employers and faculty members for the purpose of providing study-related employment experiences for which college credit is awarded. Career employment professionals provide extensive training to help Weber State students develop job-seeking skills and create an atmosphere wherein employers, students and alumni can meet their needs. Additional support services include professionally staffed career and employer libraries, job service, part-time and full-time employment referral and work-study employment referral. COUNSELING AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES Director. Richard Southwick Location: Building 1, Room 125 Telephone: 626-6406 Purpose The purpose of the Counseling and Psychological Services Center is to promote student development in emotional, social, educational, and career areas. Services are also available to faculty and staff members. Occasionally, members of the University population encounter circumstances that induce frustration, stress, and personal disruption. Effective strategies for coping with these situations and feelings facilitate emotional and educational growth. The Counseling Center provides group and individual programs to enhance both personal and interpersonal development. Description The Counseling and Psychological Services Center has a full-time, professional staff of psychologists and counselors who work from a wide variety of theoretical approaches. Counseling regarding any aspect of personal development noted above can be obtained by scheduling an appointment through the Center receptionist. Confidentiality Initial intake interviews and all counseling sessions are kept strictly confidential. Psychiatric Service A psychiatrist serves as a consultant to the Counseling and Psychological Services Center and is available for limited psychiatric assistance through referral by and conjoint treatment with a member of the Counseling Center staff. These programs focus particularly on recruitment, orientation, retention, graduation, and placement of these group of students. Educational Resource Programs also provide the campus-wide drug and alcohol education and prevention programs. Services are designed to provide a supportive environment, help students overcome barriers, establish educational objectives and achieve their academic goals. Young Location: Shepherd Union, Rooms 354, 358, & 359 Telephone: 626-6860 This program focuses on education and prevention for the purpose of informing students, faculty, staff, and community about the consequences of chemical use and abuse. The focus of program offerings provides techniques designed to encourage the healthy life skills necessary to prevent substance abuse. The components of the program include: • College Interdisciplinary Drug and Alcohol Curriculum and information materials • Interaction communities • Peer helpers for high risk students/groups • Student, staff, faculty and administrator drug and alcohol abuse prevention assistance • Sponsorship of drug and alcohol free activities and support groups • DAHN (Drug and Alcohol Help Network) • Referral to an appropriate campus or community resource • Annual Weber State University/Dayspring Conference on Addictions EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT SERVICES Director: Don Jensen Location: Education Building, Room 10B Telephone: 626-6872 The mission of Educational Support Services is to assist students in the development of effective learning and reasoning strategies, successful self-management behaviors, and meaningful life skills. Assessment and Placement Services Assessment Assistant: Frances Young Location: Annex 13 Telephone: 626-6092 The mission of Assessment and Placement Services is to diagnose the learning skills of freshman students and then to develop an individualized development plan. The areas for diagnosis are as follows: reading, writing, math, study skills, career goals, academic values and critical reasoning skills.
