Language Arts in a Bilingual Setting (3) Develops skills for planning and implementing teaching strategies to enhance the teaching of oral and written language for students with limited English-speaking proficiency. 565. Principles of Special Education Assessment (3) A, 5 Apply statistical procedures and gain basic processes for collecting and analyzing observational information, criterion-referenced and environmental assessment in diagnosis and special education program development. 566. Role of the Special Educator (3) 5a, W Examination of the professional role responsibilities of the special educator in public schools, and the laws and State rules and regulations that govern the programs. 567. Classroom and Behavior Management (3) Sa, W Current issues, practices, and application of a variety of approaches for behavior change, discipline and management of the classroom environment. 570. Methods and Practices in Special Education (4) Sa, W Teaching methods, strategies, and practices widely used with elementary age level students with disabilities in Mild/Moderate special education programs. Prerequisite: Educ 565, 566, 568, and Educ 306, 310 or math competency or comparable courses. 571. Applications of Special Education Methods and Practices (4) A,S Effective teaching methods, strategies, and practices for secondary age level students with disabilities. Prerequisite: successful completion of mild/moderate Endorsement course work. 577. Field Experience in Multicultural Education (3-6) Students will be provided an opportunity to gain experience in teaching and working with culturally diverse students and to apply what they have learned from the multicultural education core classes in a field based experience. 585. Foundations of Reading (3) W This course examines the principles of cognitive psychology that pertain to reading. The course explores how students comprehend and apply what they know with specific focus on the relationship between reading and learning. Related teaching strategies and classroom application will be emphasized. ■ College of ■ Health Professions The Weber State College of Health Professions, in cooperation with affiliated clinical facilities and other departments on the Campus, offers an expanding programfor the education and training of health care professionals. The programs emphasize an integration of basic sciences, discipline-specific skills and knowledge, clinical experiences, and liberal arts which enable the graduate to make a maximum, contribution to patient care as a member of the health care team.
