Karl Hopkins, Superintendent OGDEN, UTAH Dear Friend: All aliens, both men and women, between the ages of 16 and 35 years, must register at the Central Junior High School, 504-25th Street, Friday, September 4, 1925, between the hours of 8 A. M. and 8 P. M. Exception only will be made of those aliens who have passed the fifth grade examination and who hold alien exemption cards. All others must register on or before the above date. Utah's State law requires that all alien persons residing in the state between the ages of 16 and 35 years, must register, pay a $10.00 instruction fee and attend an evening school at least four hours each week for a term of thirty six weeks. Only those are exempted who possess the ability to speak, read and write the English language as is required for the completion of the fifth grade of the Public Schools. However, all such persons must appear on the above date and pass the fifth grade examination before given an exemption card. "Any person subject to the provisions of this Act who wilfully violates the provisions shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine of not less than $15.00, and not more than $25.00. The parent or guardian of any person under 21 years of age, who is subject to the provisions of the Act, shall be held responsible for his registration." School work for foreign born will be held at the Ogden Senior High School each Monday and Thursday evening at 7:30 P. M., beginning Thursday, Sept. 17, and also each Saturday morning from 9 A. M. to 12 noon beginning Saturday, Sept. 19, 1925. Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced work will be offered Amercanization Students. The Beginning class stresses the speaking, reading, and writing of correct English, the Intermediate class stresses English, Civics and American History, while the Advanced class stresses Citizenship. If the work of the Advanced class is satisfactorily completed, the student (if a petitioner for Citizenship) is presented with a certificate by the Public Schools, which exempts him from a detailed Court examination on Government.
