Show Make franh slalt 7a present may take option night or pt Ogden City Public Schools W. Karl Hopkins SUPERINTENDENT Ogden, Utah November 18, 1919 Dear Sirs : Many employers have made inquiry at the office of the Board of Education about the meaning and purpose of the new school Laws of Utah. Accordingly we are sending you here with, a copy of these laws, together with a statement of our plans for carrying out the provisions of the Part Time Law in Ogden City. 1. We are requiring all persons under sixteen years of age to attend school full time until they graduate from the Eighth Grade, Sickness, or the support of the family where there is a widowed mother or an invalid father, however, constitute legitimate excuses. 2. We are requiring all persons who are sixteen years of age or who have graduated from the Eighth Grade and who are under eighteen to attend school full time unless legally excused, for any of the reasons set forth in the accompanying laws. 3. We expect all persons who are granted certificates to enter employment to attend school at least 144 hours during the school year between the hours of 8 A.M. and 6 P. M. a, Persons who are late in starting, or who are absent themselves from their assigned classes must make up such lost time. This will usually be on the employers time, and therefore justifies him in asking for a check on the employees attendance. Such a check will be furnished in the form of a card reporting each absence. b. Irregular attendance and unsatisfactory work at the Part Time Schools may necessitate cancelation of the Work Permit. c. Classes are and will be organized to meet the needs of the employee, and as far as possible will be scheduled at hours, and seasons best suited to the needs of the particular industry affected. d. In the case of girls, the four hour attendance in School must be counted as part of the eight hour day and the forty-eight hour week. Yours truly. W. KARL HOPKINS. |
