Show Agencies Launch Probe Of Tragic Blaze Origin CHICAGO, June 5 A flash fire killed 58 persons and injured 200 others early Wednesday in the Loop La Salle hotel, and safety, engineering and architectural experts sought to establish how the blaze started and why the flames spread so fast in the strictly fireproof hostelry. Within a few minutes after flames were first discovered licking out from a dummy elevator door off the main lobby, the first three floors of the 22 story building were engulfed in fire. One Utahn, Brice McBride, 52, Provo, was among the hotel fire identified dead. Patrons in the floors above opened their doors and windows to investigate the smoke and sound of fire engines. This con OHICAGO, June 5 A blind girl lecturer, Anita Blair, of El Paso, Tex., followed her seeing eye dog, Fawn, to safety Wednesday from her 11th floor room in the burning La Salle hotel. Awakened by the shouting of other guests, Miss Blair said she remained calm because any lack of composure on my part would have affected the dog. Friday, June 7 Did iorning & Went for drive up to Eden with Dr. Junior & family got back from canon trip. Nice time. The first trip for his children I think. Dr & I attended reception of La Mar Petterson & bride at Weber Institute. Married today. Cleone R Eccles is attending Y.L.M.I.A. Conference in Salt Lake the first held since 1941 owing to the War. Dr drove out to Hooper tonight. |
