Weber's Swimmers Coach Ferron Losee's Swimmers this year went through the season in better style than any other Weber College athletic team-and better than any other swimming team they met. A number of records were broken by the Wildcats during the winter campaign, among which was a 220-yard free style mark which had stood since 1928, the 50-yard freestyle, and the 150-yard backstroke. Four state meets were outstanding this year. In the first two, Weber was the victor over Box Elder and U. S. A. C. The third found the Wildcats forcing U. S. A. C. back again, 55-20. The last home meet was the Intermountain Junior A. A. U. Championship. Again Weber outpointed all comers, including U. S. A. C, Utah, and Deseret Gym. Instead of traveling south to sunny California, the 1942 paddlers turned east, defeating the University of Wyoming of the Big Seven, 68-7, and edging out Colorado University, perennial Mountain States Conference champions, 39-36. At both Laramie and Boulder, Weber showed no respect for conference or pool records, breaking four at the Buffalo meet before a capacity crowd. 82 The belle and the bow. Snow Basin shakeup. Doubles Club life at Weber is an eternal triangle. Meetings and bull sessions fill noon hours. Formal dances and social get-togethers make sleeping late in the morning a pleasant necessity. Spare hours between classes and on weekends are devoted to intramurals. On tennis court, gymnasium floor, golf greens, and wet tiles various club members engage in friendly competition. Autumn days are filled with flying arrows seeking the bull's-eye or the thickest shrubbery in which to get lost. Winter brings frequent pilgrimages to Snow Basin and the thrills of Wildcat Run. Many can testify that it doesn't take a big hill to make a hard fall. Spring brings robins and shouts of "Love-forty" as crossed strings strike rubber. A reserve supply of balls held off war shortages at least for spring tournaments. Intramurals |
