In compliance with the intent of the Utah Board of Regents and the Utah Legislature, Weber State University will enforce application deadlines beginning with Autumn quarter of the 1992-93 academic year, and will implement undergraduate admission requirements in the Autumn of 1993 designed to provide educational opportunities to those students best prepared to benefit. For Autumn Quarter 1992 WSU will enforce an application deadline of September 1. Students whose applications for admission are received after that date will be considered for admission on a "space available" basis. For Autumn Quarter 1993 and thereafter, WSU will enforce an application for admission deadline of July 1, and will consider students for admission on the basis of an Admissions Index number as described below. The application deadline for Winter, Spring, and Summer quarters of the 1992-93 and 1993-94 academic years is 30 days prior to the beginning day of school each quarter. Utilizing the Admissions Index WSU will offer admission in Autumn 1993 to applicants whose ACT/SAT scores and high school grades yield an index of 95 or higher. Applicants who present an index between 80 and 94 will be notified that their admission will depend on the availability of space. Applicants with an Admissions Index of 79 or less will not be eligible for admission. All students who plan to enroll at Weber State must complete an application for admission and pay a nonrefundable application fee. Students 22 years of age or less who are seeking a degree must also submit American College Test (ACT) scores. The ACT is not a matriculation requirement for new students 23 years of age and older. Students 23 years of age or older may submit ACT scores or take placement tests in English and math. The English and math placement tests are administered through the WSU Testing Center in Library, Room 045. All applicants must submit official transcripts of credit from each school previously attended. Applicants who are currently enrolled at another college or university must submit an official copy of their transcript as evidence that they are in good academic standing, and must submit an official copy of their final transcript as soon as it is available. Application forms are available at all Utah high schools or from the Admissions Office, Administration Building, Weber State University, Ogden, Utah, 84408-1015. If admission is granted prior to high school graduation or while work is in progress at another college or university, the decision is contingent upon satisfactory completion of graduation requirements or the work in progress and is revoked if the student does not graduate or if the final work is not acceptable. Acceptance notices are valid only for the quarter indicated. Applicants who do not register during the quarter for which they were accepted and who wish to be considered for a subsequent quarter must notify the Admissions Office. Departmental Admission Requirements Some academic departments require additional information and separate application forms before considering students for admission into selective programs. It is possible for students to be admitted to Weber State but denied admission to a particular department such as Nursing, Dental Hygiene, or Teacher Education. Applicants are responsible for supplying all supplementary materials required by those departments. Students should contact the department in which they are interested or the Academic Advisement Center for specific details. Freshman Applicants A carefully planned program of high school coursework can give students a definite edge in their college work. Those who master certain basic subjects and skills in high school can substantially increase their chances for success at the university level. For the 1992-93 academic year, WSU will admit new students without reference to the number of high school units completed in various subjects. The University will develop a list of recommended high school courses for students entering Autumn 1993 and thereafter. Students whose skills in English and Math fall below predetermined levels are assessed a Student Development fee each quarter. They are exempt from the fee when they have reached English and Math proficiency and have completed at least 30 credit hours with a cumulative grade point average of 2.00 or better. The English proficiency requirement is satisfied by a grade of C- or better in English 096, or by passing the English Writing test, or by achieving a score of 17 or better on the ACT English test. The Math proficiency requirement is satisfied by a score of 17 or above on the ACT Mathematics test, or a grade of C or better in Math 096, or by passing the Math Placement test with a score high enough to place in Math 105. It should be noted that the basic skill courses of English 096 and Math 096 carry an additional fee of $21 per credit hour in addition to regular tuition and the Student Development fee. PLEASE NOTE: Remedial coursework hours are included in the calculation of quarterly grade point average and in total hours for the quarter, but are not included in the Services calculation of cumulative grade point average or total hours for graduation. Proficiency in English and Math is not the same as the English and Math competency requirement for graduation, student (See WSU Core Requirements.) Resident Applicants Utah residents must complete the following steps to be accepted as fully matriculated students: 1. Graduate from an accredited high school. 2. Submit ACT scores, if 22 years of age or less. 3. Students 23 years of age or older may submit ACT scores or scores from the English and math placement tests administered by the WSU Testing Center. 4. Request an official transcript from their high school of graduation. The transcript should be sent directly from the high school to the Weber State Admissions Office. 5. Submit an application for admission. 6. Pay the application fee. Nonresident Applicants Applicants who are nonresidents must complete the following steps to be considered for admission as fully matriculated students: Interdisc. Programs 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Graduate from high school with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.20. Submit ACT or SAT scores. Request an official transcript from their high school of graduation. The transcript should be sent directly from the high school to the Weber State Admissions Office. Submit an application for admission. Pay the application fee. Selection of Academic Program of Study Applicants for admission to WSU should specify their educational plans, including the degree they hope to attain, their major, minor, and any academic emphases allowed within their selected major or minor. Students unable to select a program of study at the time of application will be designated as undeclared. Undeclared students should plan to meet with an academic advisor in the Advisement Center as early in their academic career as possible to seek assistance in planning their program of study at WSU. Graduate Applicants Master of Education Weber State offers to educators a graduate program leading to a Master's Degree in Education (M.Ed.). Although primarily for teachers in the public schools, non- traditional educators will benefit from the program. Students may choose breadth in the program or specific areas of subject specialization. The program has a practical orientation and is specifically designed to improve the professional and instructional skills of teachers.
