Show Health, P.E., Recreation Health, P.E., Recreation • General Information The recreation and leisure needs of college students can be met through participating in intramurals, campus recreation, sports clubs, and scheduled free play. The Intramural Program consists of a variety of activities organized on a competitive and recreational basis and is open to students, faculty and staff. PROGRAM: LIFESTYLE MANAGEMENT MAJOR-BACHELOR DEGREE General Requirements: • WSU Core Requirements (see index). • General Education Requirements (see index). • 183 total hours are required for this degree. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). • Not more that 85 hours for the major will be accepted from courses in the Department of HPERD. • A minor is not required. • Lifestyle Management majors must have a 2.25 GPA or better in major courses. No more than one "D" is acceptable. The overall GPA must be 2.00 or better. Specific Requirements: • Completion of a 25-hour core: Nutrition PD105 (3); Health 200 (3); PE 108/248 (2), 301 (3), 350 (5), 351 (5), 460 (4). • Fulfillment of internship/special projects 15 hours: PE 486/ Health 486 (2-9) and PE 289/489 and/or Health 289/489 (1- 9), and PE or Health 480 Special Project (2-5). • Completion of 20-25 hours of support courses from three areas: Written 3-5 hours: Engl 327 (3); Commun 113 (5), 235 (3); Educ 303 (3). PROGRAM: PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHING MAJOR-BACHELOR DEGREE General Requirements: WSU Core Requirements (see index). General Education Requirements (see index). Commun HU102, Zool NS201, and Health 200 are required for P.E. majors and Psych SSlOl is recommended. A teaching minor is required. P.E. Teaching Majors refer to Teacher Education requirements. Physical Education teaching majors must have a 2.85 GPA or better in major courses. No more than one "D" grade is acceptable. Teaching majors must achieve an overall 2.85 GPA. 183 total hours are required for this degree. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). Students obtaining a Physical Education teaching major must satisfy the College of Education Certification Program (see Teacher Education). Recommended Support Courses (8 credit hours): Psych SSlOl (5); Nutrition PD105 (3). • Outside Professional Activities—Student must participate in three outside professional activities approved by an adviser. 162 PROGRAM: DUAL CERTIFICATION OF SECONDARY PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHERS FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL For individuals holding a secondary physical education certificate who desire to work in the elementary schools, dual certification is available. See the department chair for more information. PROGRAM: ATHLETIC COACHING MINOR General Requirements: • Minors must achieve a GPA of 2.25 or better in minor courses.
