Perspective (3) Introduction to various techniques for representing three-dimensional objects and depth relationships on a two-dimensional surface. 218. Color (3) Theory and application of color and design. Prerequisite: Art 116. 222. Intaglio I (3) Introduction of various intaglio processes including etching, engraving, drypoint, aquatint, soft ground and embossing. 223. Screenprinting I (3) Introduction to the screenprinting process with emphasis on the basic techniques of cut film, paper stencil, tusche resist and simple photographic stencils. 224 Lithography I (3) Introduction to lithography with emphasis on crayon and tusche techniques and black and white printings. 231. Ceramics I (3) Introduction to ceramic design and forming techniques including hand building and wheel throwing. Raku and stoneware firing techniques. 235. Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design I (3) Introduction to tools, metals and other materials with emphasis on basic techniques including: sawing, soldering forming, finishing. Casting will be introduced. 241. Lettering II (3) Advanced pen and brush free-hand lettering structure: concentration on design and skill with written forms. Prerequisite: Art 141 or consent of instructor. 242. Computer Aided Art and Design (3) Studio projects in art and design using the computer as a primary tool for drawing and image processing. Prerequisite: Art 116 or consent of instructor. 243. Visual Communications: Introduction (3) Design procedures and production techniques relating to visual communications. 250. Art for Elementary Teachers (3) Theory and practice of teaching art in the elementary schools. 254. Weaving I (3) Introduction to 4-hamess floor loom weaving. Includes basic weave and fiber structure and techniques. 260. Painting I (3) Introduction to painting materials and their functions. Emphasis on the basic understanding of the painting media of oil and acrylic. The construction and design of paintings and investigations into the character and actions of paint upon a variety of surfaces. 265. Watercolor Painting I (3) Introduction to watercolor painting. 270. Sculpture I (3) - Introduction to tools and materials emphasis on the techniques of modeling, carving, casting and constructing. 283. Directed Readings (1-5) Individually chosen readings on specialized topics supervised by a faculty member. Prerequisite: Consent of faculty supervisor prior to registration. 289. Cooperative Work Experience (1-9) Participation with local artist employers for on-the job art work experience. Open to all first and second year students in the art program. Short Courses, Workshops, Institutes and Special Programs (1-6) In order to provide flexibility and to meet many different needs, a number of specific offerings are possible using this catalog number. When the number is used it will be accompanied by a brief and specific descriptive title. Soda vapor, raku and stoneware firing techniques. Prerequisites: Art 117 and 231 or consent of instructor. 335. Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design II (3) Development of concepts and procedures with emphasis on basic techniques. Includes casting, enameling, surface enrichment. Prerequisites: Art 117 and 235 or foundation and core or consent of instructor. 344 Visual Communications: Typography (3) Exploration into the communicative and aesthetic functions of text and display type as related to visual communication. Prerequisites: Art 116 and 243 or consent of instructor. 345. Visual Communications: Applications (3) Emphasis on imaging techniques and concept development as applied to visual communications. Prerequisites: Art 116 and 243 or consent of instructor. 351. Art for Secondary Teachers (3) Theory and practice of teaching art in the high school and junior high school. Prerequisite to Student Teaching. 354 Weaving II (3) Use of design elements of weav:ng through the study of tools, materials, and techniques. Exploration of pattern weaves and tapestry techniques on 4-harness looms. Prerequisites: Art 116 and 254 or Foundation and Core or consent of instructor. 360. Painting II (3) Studio studies in the formal structure and composition of paintings with a supplemental historical survey. Emphasis on landscape and figure painting including the undraped human form. Emphasis on transparent approach with introduction to gouache. Prerequisites: Art 116 and 265 or Foundation and Core or consent of instructor. 370. Prerequisite: Art 324 or consent of instructor. *430. Ceramic Glaze Calculation (3) Glaze formulation to achieve definitive ojectives for desired glaze qualities.
