This collection contains 74 diaries of Dr. Edward Rich and his wife Almira. They begin in 1892 and run through 1965. The bulk of this collection centers on Almira's diaries that run from 1897-1947. During that time she documented her personal life and the medical practice of Edward, the community of Ogden and national events such as the outbreaks of WWI and WWII. The diaries also include newspaper and magazine clippings, memorabilia and pins. |

Show Abraham Vander Veen Abraham Vander Veen, 80, of 1024 Grant, died at the home of a son, William, in Slaterville, p. m. of causes incident to age. Mr. Vander Veen was born April 8, 1866, in Holland, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Tjalling Vander Veen. In 1888, he marrie Tjimke Douma in Holland. She died 12 years ago. As a young man Mr. Vander Veen joined the Dutch navy. He became a convert to the L. D. S. church and in 1926 he and his family came to the United States, settling in Ogden. In Holland he had engaged in cattle raising and had entered purebred stock in livestock shows in nearly every country in the world. He was a member of the high priest quorum of the L. D. S. Mound Fort ward, was a temple worker and had been a ward teacher in the First ward, where he formerly resided. Surviving are the following sons and daughters: Douwe Vander Veen, Holland; William I. Vander Veen, Slaterville; Mrs. Hilda Buckway, Ogden; Mrs. Jeltje Anema, Holland; Mrs. Anna Rollema, Los Angeles, and several brothers and sisters residing in Holland; also 23 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at two p. m. at the mortuary, 836 Thirty sixth, by Bishop Walter Checketts of the First ward. Burial will be at 836 Thirty sixth. |
