Show Mucking Mucking was done by Goodman Conway 100-1 machines loading 8-cu. yd. side dump cars manufactured by Miners Foundry Company. Car passing was accomplished using "cherry pickers" on the gantry jumbos and motorized carpassers behind the mainline jumbo. Three "California switches", as well as several permanent passing tracks, were used for shuttling trains so as to keep the mucking operation on a continuous basis. Underground Conditions Underground conditions were generally good with some steel supports having been installed. Blocky ground had been stabilized by the use of roof bolts. Underground water also hampered operations at times. The maximum flow encountered was approximately 6,000 gpm which had to be pumped from the downstream heading at Rock Creek. The total cost of this project was $12,395,000. 2) Whitecliff Park The site grading for residential lot development for the Claremont Management Company in the amount of $328,390. Work was started in September of 1959 and completed in May of 1960. This was a well conducted operation performed within 2 per cent of estimated costs. 3) Garrison Stripping The removal of overburden and phosphate ore for the Montana Phosphate Products Co. This was a continuing project begun in 1955. It amounted to about $500,000 a year. 4) Shirley Basin Shaft Construction of a shaft for a uranium mine for the Utah Mining Corporation.
