Show MINE AND MINE SHOPS Buildings and facilities constructed in this area included: Mine Office Building Mine Electric Shop Acetylene Generating Plant Mine Change House Truck Repair and Machine Shop Lubrication and Wash Shop Warehouse and Tire Storage Building Explosive Storage Magazine Fire Station Diesel Power Plant Mine Ore Leading Docks (3) Locomotive Running Repair Shop Fuel Oil Storage Facilities Water Distribution System Sewage Collection and Disposal System Electrical Distribution System Communication System Southern Peru Copper Corporation initiated mine pit stripping operations in 1?56, necessitating early completion of permanent shop facilities for crews and heavy equipment repair. Consequently, the area was given first construction priority upon arrival of Utah-Emkay personnel and equipment, and in the early stages was carried on concurrently with Contractor camp construction at Incapuquio. Excavation and site grading for these facilities was performed by Peruvian contractor, Grana y Montero, under contract from Southern Peru Copper Corporation, prior to arrival of Utah-Emkay. Approximately 500,000 CY of excavation were involved in preparation of the shops site. Actual building construction in this area began in June of 1956.
