Show subcontract with lock Joint-American (see report section on Water Supply) and installed by Contractor. The smelter is designed to process 1,250 tons of copper concentrates such 24 hrs, producing some 200 tons of blister copper bullion per day. Concentrates and fluxing agents are fed to one of two reverberatory furnaces, and matte is transformed by ladle and overhead crane to one of four 13'-0" diam. x 30' long Pierce-Smith rotary converters. Converters air is supplied by four Oerlikon 2-stage centrifugal blowers, each with a design capacity of 30,000 CFM at 15 psig. Nolton copper is then transferred again by ladle and overhead crane, to one of two Treadwell 250 ton, 13'-0" diam. x 36' long holding furnaces, from where it is poured to casting wheel moulds and the cast bullion ingots are transported by rail to the Ilo Port for interim storage and export shipment. |
