Show Marriott-Slaterville City History January 2017 Marriott-Slaterville Monthly History January 2017 Winter weather continued with more bitter cold, lots of snow and rain this month. Although the moisture is very welcome it has resulted in numerous accidents on our freeways and other roads, with concerns about large amounts of snow on rooftops, possible flooding when warmer weather returns, and the inevitable pot holes. As Mayor Butler begins his last year in office, he wrote his "State of the City" address for the Pioneer Post. Butler has served as Mayor since we incorporated in 1999 to now. Many years and much work have brought great improvements to our community and preserved our culture and history. Mayor Butler thanked the many citizens who volunteer and serve, noting that it has been his pleasure to serve as our Mayor. We have lost many residents and gained new ones, and experienced joys and tragedies. He thanked all who have taken pride and united in our community to make this a wonderful place to live and work. 2016 Community Awards The following Community Awards were presented at the City Council Meeting held on December 15, 2016: Good Neighbor History Award Youth Award Service Award Mark Hodson and Frank Blair Bob Taylor Ezrah Brandley Bart and Sandra Spencer Planning Commission Meeting-January 17, 2017 Mayor Butler expressed his appreciation to the Commission members for the time and effort they spend in their service to the City. By acclamation Chair Les Syme and Vice-Chairman Kent Meyerhoffer were re-elected to serve in their present positions on the Planning Commission for the upcoming year of 2017. Pioneer Elementary School proposed inclusion of a separate drop-off zone for loading and unloading of students, which was approved by the Commission with several stipulations. Brad Hart appeared before the Commission requesting approval to construct a car wash at 1031W 1200 S. The commission approved this subject to several regulations. Bill Morris presented annual training on the Open and Public meetings Act, and Non-discrimination. Mayor Butler announced that Rick Taylor has resigned from the Commission and Dale Neal will be appointed in his stead upon approval from the City Council. |
