This year has had many challenges from road projects, storm water concerns, development, and staff changes. The community has also celebrated many successes with great events, roads repaired from damages of the past winters, a new park playground, renovation of a historical cabin, and making storm water improvements. As the new year approaches we will have a new mayor and a new council member yet to be determined. We will also have more development that needs to be well regulated, so that we do not experience the problems that you see in our neighboring cities. It is imperative that we have quality infrastructure including drains, roads, open space, and irrigation. Marriott-Slaterville is known as a healthy and friendly place to live and raise a family. Your City is financially stable and we /oid much of the politics and associated problems you see in Wfher governments. It necessary that we continue and improve our record of excellence. Let's strive to resolve our differences and make friendships so we can live together in peace and harmony. On behalf of the council, commissiMiers, staff, and volunteers I wish you a Happy New Year. Aftermath 2017 This year we watched devastation unfold over our nation. Communities in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Puerto Rico, Oregon, Washington, and Califomia all remind us that regardless of the size or location of a city or town it is vulnerable to environmental conditions. Cities also face risks from market fluctuations and changing social and political dynamics. We are still coping with the catastrophic impact from environmental and social unrest across this country. This has become an economic, social, and personal tragedy for millions of families. The impact is most directly felt by the people who live, work, raise their families, in a the place they call home. Local govemment leaders across the country ask you to be a community builder in the aftermath of 2017. As a community builders, you shape the future. This year our community escaped severe flooding problems. Flooding is the most dangerous environmental aspect facing our residents. FEMA is in the process of updating its flood maps in Weber County. This is done so we can try to avoid the damage other communities have experienced. It is years like this one that remind us that every project envisioned, designed, approved, or developed, no matter the size, has the potential to improve or deteriorate the lives and well-being of many people. May we all be community builders doing what is in the best interest of the community for the many competing and contravening interests. Let's work to perform exceptionally for the generations to come. PLANNING COMMISSION TUESDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2017 - 7:00 P.M. 1. Call to Order/Minutes. 2. Old/new business. 3. Adjourn.
