Show AUNT JANE'S CORNER Dear Aunt Jane: Why are we having our school opera on a Saturday night? I think that we would have a much larger nouse if it were held on a Thurs¬day and Friday night instead of Fri¬day and Saturday. It just seems as though people always have certain usual places TO "go on—Saturday night. DISAPPOINTED. Dear Disappointed: Remember there are two nights to attend the opera so those people who have other places to go on Saturday night may come on Friday. Simple, don't you see? AUNT JANE. Tiger Tracksters Expect To Bid For State Title Howard Greenwell May Sparkle Again In Sprint Features March 29, 1931 Baldy Simkin Has Record Squad Out For Spring Football Workout TRACK and field and football are sharing honors at Ogden High school these days. Tracksters are working out un¬der the direction of Dixon Kapple, director of ath¬letics, while spring football is being conducted by Ern¬est Simkin, for¬mer Utah Univer¬sity all-conference lineman. Kapple has a squad of more than 40 men in abbreviated togs and while most of the youngsters are untried, still he believes that he will have a contender in the race when the state championship series is staged. Track letter men are scarce at the Orange and Black lair. Gus Vaughn, pole vaulter, and Howard Greenwell and Duane Darling, sprinters, are the only veterans back in suits. Vaughn won the pole vault in the northern region meet at Logan last spring but failed to place in the state finals. He has been show¬ing fine form this spring and is confident of garnering points for the Tigers in tne Utah classic in May. Howard Greenwell is expected to press all sprinters of the state in the century and furlong this sea¬son. He has tremendous power and is polished in every department of the running sport. He was one of the outstanding men of northern Utah last year. Darling stands out as a threat !n the sprints also. There is a posisibility that Kapple may use these two men on the Tiger relay team, Jack Harbertson and Jake Olish are other candidates for the team. They both hope to win their spurs as sprinters. Lloyd Jacobsen and Jack Hilton are out for the weights. These two men are inexperienced, but have impressed Coach Kapple in their willngness to report for workouts. Mickey Chez, quarterback of the grid team last fall, is one of the other candidates. He is hopeful of getting a place in the sprints. Dale Anderson and Lowell An¬derson, both hurdle candidates, are said to have the class. These two men and several others are showing form along with those heretofore mentioned. Ogden has captured two state track titles under Dixon Kapple. With facilities better now than at any time in the past the Tiger mentor hopes to trot out a con¬tender this season. FINE PROSPECTS "We have some likely looking youngsters, all untried, but I be¬lieve they will develop before the season closes," said Coach Kapple last night. "Regular workouts will be conducted at the stadium just as soon as the weather will permit." Coach Baldy Simkin of the Tigers has more than 40 men out in foot¬ball suits. Captain-elect Lloyd Jacobson, tackle, is one of the most promising men on the squad. The pilot has pleased Simkin by his fine work. Spring football will continue for at least ten days. It is probable that the Tiger grid mentor may stage a scrimmage as a final fea¬ture of the spring season before the moleskins are laid away until fall.
