Show November 2, Sick. November 3. Sick. Sect. 70 is to arrive and relieve us tomorrow. November 4. Relieved. Meet Joe Goss brother and Wallace. Goss tells me about Jerry Dupont. Still sick (cold, damp, and fog.) November 5. Expect to leave in morning but destination not known. Govt does not refund money and gives no clothes allowance. (Sick) Can t break it up. November 6. Still here. Have lost my voice. Broke and no pay day in sight. Am being treated by French Med can Chef French Cups, etc. (War is Hell) November 7. Packing to leave for Paris, in the morning. Pal gives me a hand in packing. Awful cold. Ice on water trough. Get extra blanket for tonight. November 8. Left La Veuve at 730, Chalons 900 am, Paris 300 pm. Dinner on train. Given 3 franc allowance for days rations. Dinner costs 7 francs. Awful sick can hardly breathe. Arrive and am sent to hospital. Dr. Drakes 6 Rue Piccini Paris. November 9. Had bath, pills, physic, and am damn sick. November 9 to December 13. In hospital Pulurosy (Pleurisy). December 14. Am to leave for Chacrise tomorrow. Take room at Continental opposite Tuileries Gardens. (Les Tuileries is the most central park in Paris. Les Tuileries stretches its French style alleys and lawns along the Seine river right bank from the Louvre museum to the Concorde square.) Dinner Cafe de la Paix. Hot bath. December 15. Reached Chacrise. 16 kilometers from Soissons. (Soissons is a commune in the Aisne department in Picardie in northern France, located on the Aisne River, about 100 kilometres (60 miles) northeast of Paris. It is one of the most ancient towns of France.) Had to walk with bundle. Mighty tired but reception was worth it. Boys have place saved for me. December 16. Took walk through town. Read my letters. Visited Chateau. Mighty tired. New Lieut looks like fashion plate. December 17. Given car. Start cleaning and putting it in shape. December 18. To take up front posts tomorrow. Pack up. December 19. Called 600 am. Roll call 700. Coffee left for Juvigny 930. Cleaned our new barracks. Set up kitchen. Think barracks will be fine. |
