Why not? LARGER GYM NEEDED It is estimated that about three thousand people attended the Ogden-Weber basketball game Monday levelling. This isn't an exceedingly large crowd for a community of 75.ocm people,, yet the Weber gym vros uncomfortably crowded. It isn't nearly large enough for games in the public at large is interecsted. What can we do about it? Is lit possible for Ogden to get a suit¬able gymnasium? Orator Winner Named. OGDEN, Utah, March 6.—In an oratorical contest on the Constitution of the United States" held Friday, March 6, at Ogden high school, Andrew Brunetti, senior, was awarded first place. Other contestants were Helen McKay and Marion Ensign. This contest, consisting of prepared and extemporaneous speeches, was the climax of a series of preliminary try-outs, and entitles Mr. Brunetti to represent the school in the district try-outs to be held about March 15. R. O. T. C. Standing OGDEN, March 2--The standing of the R. O. T. C. companies of Ogden high school for Feb. is: First, band; second, Company A; third, Company C; fourth, Company B. Competition is keen for the American Legion silvery trophy, to be presented to the winning company May 25. Schoolastic Fives Meet In Court Final Ogden- Weber Clash Tonight; Division Gonfalon At Stake Four Period Struggle Anticipated; Loser Meets Randolph March 9, 1931 COURT artists of the Ogden and Weber high schools tangle at the Weber gymnasium tonight for two championships in the indoor sport. The division title and the city gon¬falon will be at stake in the four period battle, which is carded for 8 o'clock. Ogden captured the first game of the annual two-game series with the Warriors some time ago by three points. This affair was staged on the Warrior court. Last Wednesday night the Warriors outplayed the Orange Streaks and gained a 29 to 26 decision in a contest that neces¬sitated an overtime period. At the end of the regulation game the teams were tied at 26 all. Weber counted a single bucket and a free throw in the extra period while the' Tigers failed to score. The victor in the game tonight will be eligible to compete in the state series at Salt Lake next week. The losing five must meet Randolph of the Rich division Thursday night- for the right to perform in the an nual Utah series. This contest wil be played at the Weber high gym Coach Dick Kapple of the Tigers expects to make at least two shifts in his lineup tonight. Dale Anderson, classy guard, who has been out of the lineup for a number of weeks will be back on the guard line. Hilton is slated to per¬form at the other guard post. Captain Clyde Hunter will be at one forward and Jack Harbertson is slated to perform at the other posi-tion. Kinner, the elongated center, will open the battle at the pivot, post. Coach Dick Thorne will send the same men into battle against Og¬den as he used last week. Captain Joe Chandler will perform at center. The forwards will be Sarlo and Lambert. Stratford and Wade will get the call on the guard line. Sid Spencer and Wilford Romney, both of Salt Lake, are to serve as the officials of the final contest. The contest tonight promises to be a nip and tuck affair. Both teams will battle to the final gun and in-dications are that the title event will be brimful of colorful play. |
