Show MINE AND MILL CAMPS In the Toquepala area, the basic consideration in location of the permanent camps was that of economics through taking all possible advantage of favorable portion of the rugged terrain. Thus, unlike the smelter Camp at Ilo, the line and Mill Camps were dispersed and constructed in several seperate areas. The major areas hers treated are respectively designated the Staff Village and the Workers Camp. Staff Village. Located in a relatively flat, shallow canyon 9 kilometers by road below the Mill at an elevation of just over 8,000 ft., the Staff Village houses the mine and mill staff and supervisory employees, with related service facilities for them and their families. Constructed in this area were: Housing Units 126 Staff houses, 3 & 4 bedroom 73 Empleado houses, 2 & 3 bedroom 13 Staff Apartment Houses, 2-story, 5 room, 4 family units Staff Hotel, 24 rooms, 2-story & basement, with kitchen and dining room. Guest House, 4 bedrooms, with kitchen and dining room Service Facilities Stiff School Recreation Building & Swimming Pool Food Market Administration Building Church Fire Station Service Station Water Distribution System Sewage Collection ard Disposal Systems Electrical Distribution System Street Lighting Storm Drainage System Communication System Site grading in this area was started September 28, 1956, and was essentially complete by August 1, 1957.
