Show struotion priority was given to completion of the temporary houses, which were utilized as empleado family dwellings after the construction period, in order to accommodate Contractor employee families. The first of these 78 units was completed around February l, 1957, and all other units followed by August 15, 1957. The first concrete slab for a staff house was poured on February 20, 1957, and the first house released for occupancy in August 1957. During the month of January 1958, an integrated, work force combined with steady materials flow allowed an average of one house to be completed each working day, and the last of the 126 residential units was completed on June 21, 1958. The Administration Building, main offices for Southern Peru Copper Corporation, was begun in September, 1957 and occupied March 1, 1958. In July 1952, Southern fern Copper Corporation requested construction of an additional 7 staff apartment buildings in this area, which were completed December 16, 1958. An extensive program of occupied home and yard, improvements, such as patios, concrete block yard walls, and plarters, plus various items of added work, such as the swimming pool, fire station, service station and street lighting in the enpleado housing area, required presence of construction crews actively engaged until early September 1959. 267,000 C.Y. of site excavation, 12,000 C.Y. of structered. concrete, and approximately 850,000 concrete block were required for construction of the Staff Village. Worker's Camp. The combined Worker's Camp was located just below the Mill area can elevation of 10,000 ft. Housing for Toquepala mine and mill operational employees was distributed between two areas, one area for skilled workers and the other area for semi-skilled workers and laborers. |
