Show May 29. Go to Chateau. Spend night there. Men still in lines. Blow up ammunition dumps. Fall back to Montreal. Evacuate Chateau Thierry. Also Hospital in Montreal. May 30. Evacuate hospitals all day. Bed 900 pm. Called 1015 pm work till 330 am loading train up at 500 am. Work on car. May 31. Evacuate to La Ferte Gaucher. No train. June 1. Evacuate hospitals. Get 1 American blessie from Chateau Thierry in this attack. June 2. Evacuate Blesses to railroad station. Major Hall visits us. Get new American cook. U.S. troops coming in force. June 3. More American troops. French avion gives spectacular exhibition over town. Nose and tail dives, loop the loop, etc. Play indoor baseball. June 4. Go to Bethon in convoy. Take in town, bath and shave. June 5. Convoy to Marcilly sur Seine. Have fine courtyard for cars. Sleep in old claiming mill. Go fishing with Gyp and Frank Coman. No luck, one beer. June 6. Work on cars. Fishing Gyp, Pal and Frank. Beer comes to town. Don Miller comes back from permission. Washed cars in Seine. June 7. K.P., Bath, Baseball, Write letter to Dad. June 8. Inspection, play cards, walk to Pouilly eight kilometers. Had good beer. Are reforming division. Losses 80 percent. On somme 60. June 10. Go to Paris to play baseball with aviation mechanics score 1920 their favor. Stay at Pouilly for dinner and I played second base. Dinner at Swan of the Cross. Played cards in the evening. This is a wonderful country. Grain, poppies, mustard, just one mass |
