Show November 20 Continued. People try to kiss our hands. Want us to live in their house. Barrack in school house. They can t understand why we don t demand the houses for barracks as the Boche did. Lieut get two cases of milk and sack of sugar. Go to Luxembourg in morning. November 21. Cancelled, so work on cars. November 22. Moved to Martelange in Luxembourg. Every town we pass through greet us. Great arches. Honor to our Allies. Honor the Vanquisher. Honor to the sons of true Freedom. Honor to our liberators. On arriving in Martelange met by comic opera, soldier, police, band and civils who cried, Long live America. Long live our brave allies, etc. Barracks at nunnery. Get shave and hair cut. 7 francs for all. November 23. December 11. Main points. Big fish dinner. Visit to Luxembourg city. Arlon, Belgium. Rain. No sun at all. December 11. Move to Redange, Luxembourg. One grand Boche village. No cantonment (A cantonment is a temporary or semi-permanent military quarters). So rent rooms. Hale, Kemble, and myself get room with Montana Pete. Cafe below us. Section broke. December 25. Big Christmas breakfast and dinner. Pay has come so big time. December 26. Same old stuff. Work and hope for quick release. Rice and Billie sent me money. December 28. Move to Virton, Belgium. December 29. Move to Montinedy, France. Quarters in Palace of Justice. Mighty dirty. December 30. Clean up quarters. W.L. sends bank note. December 31. Make out reports. Do washing. January 1, 1919. Lieut. to Paris. Clean up cars. January 2. Still working on cars. |
